I have done it both ways. We offer a kit so that you can do a clean install no matter which way you go.
Here is the windshield kit.

Stock cube LS1, 14:1 CR with 5.3 heads, big cam, 150 dry shot, just added a 200 direct port, 4600 stall on the built 4l60e, moser with 4.10 gears, every suspension mod in the rear, doing the K-member this winter, and wheelie wheels. Ten years of EBay !!!

10.60 on the 150 dry shot. That 300 shot launch did pull a 1.35 60 foot, but I only 1/8 miled it with a 6.47 from a normal 6.74... I need to upgrade to a dual fuel pump system...
It ate the plugs...

I would also say you had way too much timing in that thing, it takes heat to melt the plugs, aka too hot off a plug and too much timing. 22 degrees is way too mich for a 350 hit.
It should prolly be in 15 area with that much in it with -9 plugs or maybe even 10's. non projected ofcourse. What fuel are you running as well?

I usally run 26* on the 150 dry shot & have 46lb injectors to compensate. They run about 60% duty at WOT.
Guess I could chill it down a few notches...
