Default nitrous 5.3

Is nitrous safe on a stock 5.3? And what mods are the best bang for your buck?

The 5.3 is fine with Nitrous and when installed and tuned correctly with the correct safety devices and accessories Nitrous is as safe as any other power adder. On the other hand if you cut corners and dont do it right it can bite you real quickly.

The stock bottom end of the 5.3 is capable of safely taking up to a 150 hp worth of nitrous.

You can put nitrous on a stock 5.3 without a problem. Mod wise you could do a ColdAir- headers and catback and hit with 100hp shot and have fun all day long. Tune/ correct plugs is must too.

If the diablo is adding any timing, remove it. You'll want to pull timing rather than adding it while spraying. Depending on what size shot you're looking to run, you might need to address your fueling as well.

For the plugs i'd suggest the NGK BR7EF ( Stock # 3346 ) plugs. With no more mods than you have you could spray up to a 125hp shot without having to upgrade the pump and if you wanted to go higher on jetting before you do that you will need to get it on a dyno to monitor AFR. In general before you spray the vehicle i suggest putting it on the dyno so you can monitor the AFR on all the shot sizes ( I'd suggest starting at a lower hp setting and working your way up to your desired shot hp ). IF the diablo programmer is adding timming then you will need to return the tune back to stock unfortuately.

Unless you can send it back or have diablo send you a nitous file of some sort then unfortunately your not going to be able to use it. 125hp should ( key word is SHOULD ) drop you at least 1 sec in the 1/4.

Other than the system i'd suggest getting a FPSS ( Fuel pressure safety switch ), Window Switch, and a Nitorus fitler. You could also get a bottle heater as well becasue nitorus is run off of pressure and without the heater there will be no way to keep the pressure in the bottle up.
