Ok, school me in nitrous please?
Going to build a 409ci 12:1cr engine. Whats a good nitrous system nowadays for this application? Looking at a 150-200 maybe?
Last I looked, what seemed ages ago, TNT always had a nice system.
Wet or Dry, I mean, you must understand im a complete idiot on this stuff. I need a nitrous for dummies book.
Saw Derty's setup and that is phenominal. That would be nice, you have a write up on that?
Thanks guys
Casey

What kind of gas are you planning on running? 12:1 & 150/200 shot on 93 octane doesn't sound all that good of an idea...
I personally like NOS systems, they are proven & reliable...
HP Books I believe makes a "Nitrous Oxide" book, should be available at any Borders or Barnes & Noble- for around $16.....a worthwhile purchase.

I don't have a write up per se, but I know what I have into it. I use an NX direct port with IceMan Pro solenoids instead of the smaller ones that come in the kit. You can jet it from 150 to 300 and the solenoids will go up to about 600 on this setup. Can't say my fuel pump will though.
I'm biased towards wet kits from either NOS or NX. I personally prefer to have the motor do it's own thing then supplement that with the nitrous system.
I'll try and write something up for everyone tomorrow and get it posted.

BTW, Got a question, probably common sense to you guys. If im running 93 octane, and im assuming by the pictures that that little tank is a higher octane? Would you have to run race gas in the main tanks or will that little tank with higher octane be ok when spraying?

In terms of "run" I assume you are talking about how much N2O not cost because I lost track of that a long time ago! I am spraying 300. With the amount of compression you are looking at running you will probably be borderline with good 94 octane in the main tank. I had the same compression as you are planning this year and I ran 104 unleaded in the main tank and 116 leaded in the front tank. The engine came apart very clean with no signs of detonation at all after 15 full N2O passes and 3 sets of plugs. I never made any motor passes at the track this year but I put about 50 miles of street time with no detonation issues.

I'll just post something I sent to someone else earlier today regarding the costs. As far as fuel goes I run the same fuel in both tanks. As Tom pointed out, you can mix your fuel as well. With the lower shot sizes it's probably less of a problem. The most important thing is to make sure that you actually tune the car and run it the same way you tuned it. Anything outside of the known will likely cause you some issues.
Expect the whole fuel setup to cost about $600 or so. The pump really is critical to how much you intend to spray. You can do it with a Holley Black. NX Recommends black or larger for their direct ports because they run at 9 to 10 PSI instead of 6 PSI like NOS. A larger pump then a Holley Black will be twice the price. That's kind of the threshold for this sort of setup.
Your braided lines and some fittings will depend on where you place the pump and your fuel solenoid. On mine the pump is below the tank by the horns. Reckless had his pump right next to the fuel cell. I didn't have room and put mine underneath the fuel cell. If you do that you have to relocate an overflow reservoir for the radiator though.
Anyway, here's a general list of what it took for mine. You should be able to get all of this from Summit Racing. Kinda like a big jigsaw puzzle! I'll write up how all of this stuff goes together tomorrow.
1 - 1 gallon Triangle Engineering fuel cell cut down 4" with the mounting tabs located at the top - ~$120
1 - 3/8 NPT to -06 AN Rollover vent from Triangle Engineering - $20
Tota from Summit is about $465 less the tank and rollover vent which you get from Triangle Engineering. I might have missed a couple small things, but overall it should be there. Just make sure you get the pump figured out before you buy the -08 fittings! At least you can ship them back and exchange them with Summit very easily and with no hassles.
