Thumbs up Anyone have any old parts?

i had a brain storm over the last couple weeks, ive wanted to get my car back together but dont want to spend all kinds of coin for maybe 2 or 5 races a year, so i started poking around and decided.
im going to do a junk yard build, stock motor in one piece (found a few, have offers in on them) im going to tweak the stock heads a tad, toss a set of old valve springs i have in the tool box on it, i need a cam, and im going to see what i can get a stock motor to run. see what we can do.
i want to spend $2,000 including the motor.
anyone have any cheep cams for sale? or timming chain in good shape?

going to see what i can do with junk, see if i can make it run.

no trade, i have all the parts for my lsx, just dont feel right spending the coin right now on rods and heads with work the way it is, but a junk yard build might be fun, i will see what i can make a cam only stock lower end 346 do with a plate kit single stage. see what we can do. hehe.

You dont want to trade? lol. no fun.

But im not sure what your car weighs but 3200-3300 lb car with a decent amount through the plate can go 9.50's or so. We should be right around there next time out.

I would try and find a MS3 cam or specs in that area. That cam and spray with a lightweight car would see 9s eash.
I had that in my old set up with some patriot heads.

Made my deal, i will have the motor in my possestion and start tinkering with it on sunday night when i get home from sledding.
i will first clean the **** out of it, then strip eveything i dont need off of it, then put the heads and take the heads apart.

im going to try to go today to grab some new bits so i can port the heads out a bit,

if i can get the heads done next week, i would guess i will have it up and running in the next 2 weeks depending on parts.
this should be fun, junk yard build!!!!!

as for parts, i have tons of parts laying around, i accually doug through everything last night and i have everything i need. im missing one valave spring, so i might just buy all new springs.

i found 3 cams, i know 2 of them are stock but the other one i forget what it is, i think its the old thunder racing 224 cam.
im thinking i might take all my solid roller stuff and put it into this motor and just buy a new solid roller cam. going to poke around and see what i can find.

my car with driver and my lsx block was just under 3400 pounds. like 3390. so it should be in the 3200 range with alum block

id like to know some info on cams. what are you 346 guys running now a days?

i know back when, i tested a couple cams t rex, and some custom grinds and i found the esp1 cam to work best on my set up, and it wasnt a huge cam.

any feed back?

i might just go with my old proven cam, or i might go with a solid roller. not sure yet.

so it starts. picked up the motor, started playing with it last night.
got it cleaned up a bit, stripped down, pistions cleaned, block deck cleaned, going to mess with the oil pump/timming chain tonight and put my polly motor mounts on it, hope to toss it in the car without heads or cam this weekend so i can messure for a new drive shaft from my power glide to my 400. i have my fingers crossed the old one fits, but i never messured it so im not sure.
pretty sure they are different length tho.
we shall see

Dave, im going to toss my carb style intake on this with the plate i got from you couple years ago.
have to redo the lines tho to install the new noids i got from you last year.
i know the intake is way to big and headers are way to big for stock motor, but it will run. lol going to toss my 4:56's gears back in i think to get the sled out of the hole

I like the milder cams myself. Something around the size of a G5X2 works really nice.
