As soon as I ross the finish line I click it into neutral and shut it off and coast off to the side and wait for one of my buddies to pull me back with the 4 wheeler.

Other times I have just carried a couple of plugs in the console and changed them myself at the end of the track.

Yeah i read that too but as long you don't do it all the time you will be fine. a few times shouldn't hurt that much. IMO

Well I will share with you what Carl Rossler told me. He said " do not put your car in neutral after crossing the finish line because it sends the transmission into hyper drive causing damage to the internals". Carl even encouraged me to go with a reverse valve body to keep me from doing that.

Do not kick it into neutral.
Coast to stop and shut it off. Tow it back to the pits.
If you decide to pull the plugs on the return road...
let the tower know your plans, so they don't think you broke something.

I won't shift into nuetral. Ok. Next question. Say I pull a couple plugs and change em on return road and drive back. Which are the best couple of plugs to pull? I'm using a plate system thru a fast 90/90

I have been curious about this too as I will be stepping up my shot this year to 200. Is it hard to steer the car after you shut it off?

just leave it in high gear and let it coast. once he cars mph is lower 50 or so then shift to nutral to make sure you get to the turn off. we pull back now but before we had a 4 wheeler we just changed them at the end of the track. header wrap helps with this and good gloves.

As far as which plugs to pull. Every engine is different. You need to learn your motor. Start off pulling all 8 until you locate the cylinder burning the hotest. Then start pulling that plug and a different one or two others each time. Keep in mind as you move up in the hp range you may spot another cylinder burning hoter due toi distribution.

I have heard that it's a big no, no to shift into neutral but by the time I heard that I had already done it about 50 times without any problems. It must be because of my super high dollar transmission LOL. It's a stock case glide that was built in 1990 for my dads bracket car by a local guy. I changed the fluid in it when I brought it home since it had been sitting since 1993. Put my converter in it and haven't had a minutes worth of trouble!

If the experts say to leave it in high gear then that is probably the thing to do, I'm just tlling you about my experience.
