Default Pulling plugs on a hot head after a pass

We all know as mechanics that you don't pull spark plugs out of an aluminum head when it is hot. Well, what do you guys do when you are at the track and making your 1/8 mile hits and you want to pull your plugs right after the pass?

Do you wait til its cold? Or is it pulling the plug out the head hot an old mechanics tale?

Shiz, Atv, BAKED, camscam I would like to know you guys take on this.

If you put high temp thread lube on the plugs they should be ok to pull hot.

We usually wait a couple mins with the hood open and then go for it. I dont really worry much about it though and have not had a problem. We dont even use anything on the threads anymore because we pull them out so often.

Might not be what everybody does, just our normal routine.

I have always just pulled them out. If i wait to let it cool for a min. it's not because I am worried about the head, it's because i don't like burning myself LOL.

Of course, with the A/C box out of there and this year the brake booster will be gone I should be able to get them out and back in in no time.

Yeah, todays aluminum heads are a lot better. I never had a problem pulling and inserting plugs on hot heads. I just use either hi-temp anti-seeze or copper hi-temp anti-seeze.

Now when you say today's heads, are we talking about aftermarket only or Gm castings here too? I don't think the general changed the material makeup of them so would it be wise to still pull the plugs hot on a stock casting?

I would feel safer with an aftermarket casting, but thats just me. Most of the big nitrous guys here are running an aftermarket casting.

I have never had an issue pulling them when hot. We just throw on a set of gloves. Yank the ones we want to look at and throw some replacements in and drive it back to the pits.

It sure is nicer when you have a tow cart to pull the car back though..lol

Stock GM castings here, no problems at all. You will be fine.
