Too much timing !

Easy with the antiseeze. LOL.

How did it run?
good thing you only made 1/8th mile hit it might not have made it thru the 1/4.

Im no expert but it doesnt look like the soot ring around the base is all the way around on any of the the plugs. That means not enough fuel from what Ive read.

It pulled hard.

I'm pulling 6 Degrees from my NA spark of 27. How much more should I pull?

I bet it did ! ... Lean and mean !

If you want to make a 1/4 mile pass 3-4*
Also looks a little lean, pulling timing will richen it a little but I would put a touch of fuel in it also.

Default nitrous rules!

The "Ground Strap" = Heat Range
The "Plug's Base Ring" = Jetting
The "Porcelain" = signs of preignition/detonation

I'll pull the timing. I checked my tune and I had a leaner VE Table in the car. I went back to my table that is a tad richer.

Are the plugs okay to run again or should I toss them. It's hard to find these where I live. I have one extra I throw in #8

Is my .033 Gap okay?

Gap is fine.

If the plugs are new you can keep them for later use but for tuning purposes you need to throw a fresh set in. I suggest cutting the threads to verify the fuel ring as well.

Gap is fine and yes you can reuse them but its easier to read new plugs.
I would throw that plug in #7 check that one as it seems to be the hottest ... so tune off of it.

Good luck!

I'm trying to get a handle on reading plugs as well. Can someone edit the photo's posted here with a few notes of what would make the plug a perfect plug? For example a line acrross where Timing would be perfect. or the plugs need to have more color here or there...........

I keep reading "color is at the half-way point on the strap" for timing. Well to me those plugs look to be just that. So I must not be completely understanding. Also is the jetting slightly lean because the Black ring didn't go all the way around the base? they have a few light colored areas yet.

Just looking for something a little more than "Yep pull 3-4 degrees".

Steve,

Atv is 100% right. I would pull 4*. I think if you pull the timing for the 1/4 it will be just about right on the fuel. Also im glad you took the time to post them up here. This section has some very knowledgeable guys.

The reason for the timing being pulled is this was a 1/8th mile pass. You can get away with a more aggressive tune than in the 1/8th. If this car was only going to run 1/8th he would be about right.

Part of the pulling the extra timing is it simply to be safe. Guys like ATV run the same gas, check plugs every pass, and in general have a very good handle on the tuneup. They are able to tune a little more aggressive on their personal car. With a daily driver like Sarge's something as simple as gas with more ethanol or even spraying longer could hurt the car if he was tuned to aggressive.

LOL - my first thought!

Too much timing and hard to say about the fuel - you need to cut them down to take pics for others to help... or use a scope to read the fuel ring.

So should I leave the tune alone and just pull the 4 degrees?

I called my napa and they have 16 BR7EF's in stock. I said put my name on every damn one of them. See you in the AM. lol

Id pull 3-4* make another 1/8th mile hit, then cut the plug and see how the fuel ring looks. I wouldn't mess with the fuel until you made a pull with a little more timing pulled.

Good call on grabbing more plugs Steve. Also if you need a different fuel jet let me know. Better to up jet then add fuel in the tune.

x2 on someone editing the pics to show what is wrong with the plug.

So you guys are suggesting to pull another four degrees from what he already has pulled out?
