DIY Remote Bottle Opener - Pics & Videos!
I just finished making my own remote bottle opener today and am EXTREMELY happy with how it turned out. I mounted my bottle in the spare tire area and really wanted a remote opener, but didn't want to fork over $300 for something I thought I could do so I gave it a go...
I made a collar that used the lower hex feature of the bottle to prevent the whole opener assembly from rotating on the bottle while in use:
Then I made a new **** that would made with the hex on the motor shaft, but that would still allow me to manually open/close the bottle for refills:
Then I used an aluminum extrusion that was trash at work, and made a plate to mount another trash 12V motor:
This motor assembly then slides over the collar piece and inserts into the hex feature on the new ****, and I finger tighten a bolt to hold the aluminum extrusion to the collar to hold it in place:

Here are some videos. CLICK ON THE PICTURES TO OPEN THE VIDEOS. I haven't figured out how to upload videos yet...
Here it is working! First attempt. The power was turned down to make sure everything worked okay. It actually rotates about 2-3 times as fast at full power (in-car):
And here is a quick video showing how easy it is to remove off the bottle for when you need to refill:

I hadn't intended on anyone wanting one, just showing off what I came up with, but if any of you are actually serious and are interested, shoot me a PM. I'm sure I can have a few more made.

Well, free to you, I imagine work paid for hte stereolithography (or whatever prototype), lol I would totally do the same, if I wasnt space constrained.... I suppose i could do something on a custom gear set.
PS, is there any overtravel protection? Meaning, if you are pushing hte button to open, and you hold past the full open position, does your electrical setup accomodate? Or just overtq the motor capability?

Yes, free to me lol
There isn't any overtravel protection yet, but there will be. As of now the motor just fully opens/closes the valve and doesn't have the torque to do any damage. I'm looking into a few options for actually sensing full open/closed and turning off power. I've been way to busy between life and work to spend much time on my N2O set up these past few weeks but am about to pick it up again.

Laughing at the guy who finds the negative in your ingenuity. Hats off to you. So what it's large, I'm sure if you built another, now that you have a working model, you could slim it down. Good job.

^ Thanks. He did have a point though, it isn't tiny, but the goal wasn't to get it as compact as possible. If that was the case I would have mounted the motor on its side with a worm drive gear. My project goals were to:
(1) cost as little as possible - my only cost will be the rocker switch to control it
(2) have it easily removeable for refills - one bolt and its off
(3) still be able to open the bottle manually - new **** can still be used manually with ease
(4) fit on the bottle in the spare tire well - done with room to spare
