Angry New best... hurt motor finally PICS ADDED

Well my time has come with the stock bottom end, I ended up hurting it pretty good yesterday at a local Outlaw 8.5 race. I had the same tuneup ive been running at the past couple events, but I just didnt get it close enough for these weather conditions and ate the plugs in hole 3 and 5. When it did that, it backfired and blew the lid into pieces and blew the hood off the car. Scary stuff

Looking back I should of had colder plugs in it and probably better fuel, but ive been running this combo so long I just got comfortable with it and didnt do those things even though I knew I should have. Live and learn and these things will happen with nitrous motors. compression test showed down 30psi in 5 and 150psi in 3.

The good is it went faster than it had ever gone eating its self up. Haha. It laid over at 5.0 into the run and still went...

1.359
3.800
5.873
117.8

2000 ft DA

Not to bad with a .5 progressive in the car and 130 degree track temps on 26x8.5s. It would have a low low .80 pass and would of could of should of went real real quick in good weather. Oh well

Damage

Here's the video, listen to it lay over after the 2-3 shift

Thanks to everybody who has helped along the way: Nitrous Express, FTI, Mark Romans, Pops, and friends on here. We will be down for a little awhile with our small budget, but we will be back with a bigger and badder setup dont you worry. If any of the Ls1tech sponsors want to get together and get us out there quicker, shoot me a pm and lets talk. We will not disappoint, I can promise you that!

It's been a good run Cam. It sucks to hear but you've accomplished a lot with a stock motor. I can't wait to see what you do next

It sucked to witness that Cam. Off to bigger and better things though. I heard some rumors about you picking up a set of heads from a certain Camaro lol. Good luck on the next build.

Been an excellent run partner. You were the reason I thought it was possible to run 9s with a stock motor cam only. I can remember taking my computer with me to my buddies house 3 years ago just to let them see your car run! You have inspired many with your little sbe ls1 and I know you will do bigger and better things with a built motor. Congrats again on the .80 passes and the killer 117 mph.

Oh yea we knew it was done when we saw that one. Funny thing is that hole is only down 30psi compared to the other down 150. I pretty sure it was hurt before this pass and it went bang on this one.

Maybe possibly... haha

Im glad I can inspire so many, its been fun over the past couple years. Its great to know that I helped people spray the crap out of these stock motors and keep them livable. We will be back this year... local friends dont want us to stop, so we are trying to find a shortblock to get it back together.

Thanks everybody!

I would bet the tune was fine. over time the rings wore out. oil gets in and destroys the motor just like if it was to rich and over timed. You had alot of runs on that thing.

Sorry to see it go. I read that article in GM high tech all the time with your car. Main reason I still spray my 150k ls1 all the time. Good luck with the next build.

14 total on twin 72 jets on an 8 plug. Not the best idea

That's something we thought about as well. Just never had a hint of oil on the plugs ever. The motor had a lot of laps and hard abuse on it so anything is possible. It's a bummer because it was gonna lay down a number as the weather came around. Low .70s at 3200 lbs I was almost certain of

SO for anyone wanting to duplicate this here is what they should do differently maybe...cam correct this if you see anything you think I missed:

-Colder than a -8 plug
-Higher octane fuel
-Less timing although with a higher octane fuel and a colder plug you might of been able to run the same amount of timing you were at 14 total.

I'm leaning towards pre-ignition as it happened after the 2-3 shift where the most load is placed on the engine. Not enough octane or too hot a plug would of reared its head right at this point and caused your engine to finally say...."Enough is enough"!!!
