383 Procharger build (Real Street)
We are in the midst of building a 383 for a new member on here, Hllywd19.. Jon owns a general repair shop here in Schaumburg and we will be working together on this build.
He's got a real nice 3rd gen Camaro with a pretty nice chassis already.. We contacted Madman to improve the suspension even more.. His torque arm, panhard bar, and offset DA control arms are on the way.. Along with DA Affco's for the rear with his valving, and strange DA front's..
The engine I am building from a 5.3 iron block, it will be 3.905 bore, zero decked, o-ringed, full fill to the deck the only water in the engine will be running through the heads. We got billet mains for it, a bad *** 4" Callies dragonslayer crank, callies ultra H beam rods, and diamond slugs.. Engine should be right at 13.5:1 compression. I have a custom ground solid roller for it, specs are in the 770 lift range and 270's/290's @ 50 on a 114.. Morel 904 lifters, smith brothers custom tapered thick wall pushrods, T & D shaft rockers are mounted on top of the Dart 225 heads that will be receiving full port work in house. Engine has an edelbrock super vic with two nitrous systems from IS, 1 fogger and 1 plate system, a custom built 4150 flange 1050 carb will be on top. We are using the GM distributor drive with the MSD Power Grid ignition system.
More pictures to come along the way..
Here's a picture of the car from the LSX shootout running in the 10.50 rumble class.. It was a 383 with stock 243 heads, and a 228/230 cam, car went 10.30's before.. We are optimistically shooting for 7's with a stock block...
Crazy? Probably!

You gonna bring it out west and run against my baby 383?? We should be right in the same realm if all works out? Maybe we will come to a shoot out next year and whoop on these boys with a single stage plate... Oh that sounds fun.
Goodluck and keep me updated!

Well we are multi-tasking here in the shop today... I am chopping the rear tin work out of Jons Camaro, and he has the cab off on my powerstroke so we can do head studs, gaskets, egr delete, etc...
Pictures to come later of all the work done.
So far I got all the rear tin work out, all that's left sitting in the back now is the wheel tubs and frame rails. I need to fab up the new parachute crossmember, new anti roll bar cross member, battery mount, and then make all the new aluminum panels to close up the back. After that I will turn my attention to the front of the car..
My buddies at Stainless Works shipped us out a new 2-1/8 primary header kit with 3.5" collectors, we will be going down and forward and out the fender. Also need to mount factory fenders back on the car, engine bay bars, mount the fuel cell, and chop some weight off the nose..
It's going to be a REAL busy couple of weeks..
