I thought I would go ahead and get a thread started on "preventative Maintenience" with nitrous kits. Basically what I want to have is a list of things for people to go by to make sure they dont blow up their motor.

As people post I will update the list. So feel free to post any ideas or comments. Ill go ahead and start

1. Make SURE you have the fuel system to support how much you are spraying.
2. Keep and eye on your 02's via ATAP or any other means necessary.
3. Check your solenoids Periodically to ensure proper functionality.
4. Don't Spray below 3000 rpms, the larger the shot the higher the rpm to start at.
5. Any amount of KR is BAD when spraying.
6. Use the correct plug for your setup and check them often.
7. Fuel cutoff switch on wet kits.
8. Window switch with manual trans.
9. Don't get greedy
10. Ensure you have proper bottle pressure
11. Too much bottle pressure can be bad.
12. Octane booster or race gas for anything over 150hp.

I know there is alot more so hopefully everyone will post up and we can have a "Nitrous Safety" list going <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

For the amount of a new engine, I would seriously look into a live WideBand O2. Going down the track, youll know exactly when/If it begins to lean out <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

Too much bottle pressure would be bad. Too little fuel pressure would be too. Also, use an octane booster with 150HP and up, race gas for 200 and up.

So what happens when you dont use a nitrous spark plug. I heard that your performace is hurt some by using those. I have been using normal plugs with my 150 shot. I know they suck and have fouled out because the car pulls weaker. But what is the real reason. Is it just to make sure of no false engagment in a cylinder when it is not that cylinders turn?

Make damn sure you are running a minimum of 100 or 103 octane if you spray more than a 125 shot, you WILL destroy stock pistons over time without it.

NOS brand fuel pressure shutoff (Hobbs) switches are TRASH! Send it to the dumpster and use an A/F meter to constantly monitor the O2's while spraying. I had a fuel solenoid fail once on the TNT 150 shot the O2's went to .000 @ WOT!!! The NOS brand Hobbs switch will turn on and off with engine vibration, just plain junk. Pet Peeve: Vapor in an N2O bottle is not "AIR" it is N2O in the gas state, though almost as worthless.. Last but not least: a little too RICH is always better than a little too LEAN.

Don't forget..... DO NOT LISTEN to buddies when they tell you to pill it up.. it won't hurt... also FOLLOW mfg suggestions on installation or jet sizes, timing retard (2 deg for every 50 hp rule of thumb) and plug heat range with the correct gap....
