Default nitrous issues

For those of you that haven't been following our build we have a 2004 Corvette bolt-on car that makes 372 rwhp and runs 11.5x-11.6x NA at 115 with 60' times in the 1.5x range. We are pleased with the NA times and how the car performs.

This winter we added a Nitrous Outlet wet plate kit with a NANO system and all the bells and whistles. On the dyno, with 100 jets, it make 502 rwhp (130 over NA) and has a safe AFR number and the timing mark on the plugs was perfect.

However ... at the track the car only ran a best of 11.40. ??? Nitrous and NANO bottle were full, pressure was fine, purged a steady stream of nitrous, plug straps weren't chewed up or missing after the run. With over 500 to the wheels this car should have been solidly in the 10s.

We run a Yank SS4000 and a stock 4L60E. Is it blowing through the converter and/or the transmission slipping and if so on either would that kill the ET that much? I'll attach a copy of a NA run and nitrous run from HP Tuners. We're new to that program so if I need to attach something else or email a copy to someone walk me through what you need as we would appreciate another set of eyes looking at it.

Thanks!

Scott

I am by no means a nitrous converter specialist but I think nitrous cars like tighter converters. Do some research on that. If you have a dyno near you, you can put the car on the dyno and watch the power graph to see if its blowing through the converter or if the trans is slipping.

I'm not sure what the slip looked like which is why I posted the scan from that run. I'm completely new to HP Tuners and am trying to learn. I hope the scan shows the slip and that someone can decipher it and teach me what it is saying. MPH was only like 118 and we go almost 116 NA. IMHO I feel the converter may be too loose, the transmission didn't function properly for whatever reason, and/or once the nitrous turned off on the 1-2 shift it never turned back on. We have it coming on at 3500 and off at 6300 as to not spray though the shifts.

you are looking at 10+mph gain from 130rwhp. If the car seemed like it was running good, I doubt the n20 system was activated. You are going to have to static test the system now. Something obviously changed after the dyno. BTW, I only use EFI LIVE or I would read the logs for ya.

^What he said.

FPSS on there by chance?

You're not gonna blow through a SS4000 on that small shot.

Yes, running a FPSS.

I do believe the system hit by looking at the scan and also from feel. It blew the tires off instantly. I think after that the transmission never shifted correctly and was "goofy" the whole run.

I'm putting a progressive controller on it this week to see if I can wait a second or so to hit it and then see what the ETs look like. I always have the option of tuning it on instantly still once I get it all figured out. Still waiting on my tuner to look at the scan to see if the transmission operated properly.

Bypass the FPSS and see what happens. A lot of people, including myself, had similar problems. I ditched the FPSS and the ET and mph drastically changed.

I would spray out the hole as well. No need for a progressive with that baby shot, unless you plan on upping the jets a lot bigger in the future.

Thanks. I've heard before that the FPSS can cause issues. I'll get it off there.

I'm going to go ahead and put a progressive controller on there just to start small and work up. I need to be able to scan runs and see what's going on with shift points on the nitrous and when it blows the tires off so violently on the launch IMHO it messes up the rest of the run and scan. After I can see what's going on I can turn the progressive controller off and hit it out of the hole. Plus, when we run at tracks with suspect starting lines I'll have the ability to take a little out of it. We do also plan to go forged later and add a second stage with more nitrous so this will give us the ability to tune it later.

Thanks!

Scott
