Default Blowing purge push buttons

So I'm having a problem where I've gone through 2, 8amp purge push buttons and I don't know why. I have everything wired up as they tell you to in the instructions the only thing I can think of is im using my headlight switch as a second arming switch could I be drawing too many amps from my headlights that it's causing me to blow out the purge push buttons?

Is the purge still working? The purge might be burned up. The coil inside will melt together if it gets too hot from being activated too long and then it will draw a significant amount more amperage. (Which could explain why the fuses keep blowing.)

Thanks,
Garrett

A purge will typically pull between 10-12 amps, so a 8 amp button may eventually have problems. I recommend using a relay- that should fix that problem completely.

Do you have a picture of the solenoid? Any of our purge solenoids do not require a relay with even a standard push button. If you were using a bigger nitrous solenoid that drew alot more amperage I could see it burning up the buttons.

Thanks,
Garrett

The purge solenoid is still working just fine. That was my first thought when this happened till I realized it was the push button.

Might be too high of an amp draw magnet on the solenoid for the button to support. A relay would definitely solve that issue, or getting a smaller solenoid.

It's the nitrous express 15600 purge kit. So you're saying I should put a relay between the button and the power wire on the solenoid?

If it is the 15600 system with the small solenoid it should not be burning up the buttons or fuses. That is a very low amp draw magnet. Does the coil smell burned?

The coil doesn't smell burnt at all and it doesnt even feel hot. I dont understand how I could be burning up these push buttons. I just put in a 15 amp spring loaded toggle switch if this burns up then I have something wrong.

i don't think the solenoid is burned up at all since it works fine both times after I changed the push button. And when I purge I only hit it for maybe 3 seconds each purge nowhere near the 20 seconds it say it takes to burn the mood up. but after doing that for the 3 passes I did, the push button would no longer work.

That switch that you put in should handle the load fine. Most purges will pull up to 10-12 amps, regardless of who makes them. A majority of the push button switches though are only rated for 3-4 amps, so they may work a few times, then burn out. Personally, I'd still run a relay just to be on the safe side with wiring. If you have any questions or have any more problems with it, feel free to PM me and I'll do all I can to help you get it worked out.

Ok so I took my car to work tonight so I could hook my multimeter up to it and see how many amps it was drawing. The biggest spike was 2.6 amps so now I'm completely stumped as to why I blew out two buttons. My only idea is that the push buttons I bought from aytozone were crap I didn't use the one that can in the kit because the one tab was broken off of it but I didn't have the patience to send it back and wait for a new one. Do you think these aytozone push buttons could be the problem even though they say they're rated for 8 amps?

Wire it correctly with a relay.

If it still opens reliably at high pressure, I would just put in a relay as mentioned above. That would be the simplest way to solve this issue, or if you want to send it in to be I would be happy to take a look at it and make sure there isn't a short or anything crazy like that.

Key work buddy AUTOZONE. I went thru the same thing on my switch, blaming everything else and all it was the cheap *** button. I bought a TCI transbrake button and never had an issue again. Yes the autozone switch was only about 10.00 I think, the TCI was about 45-60. Been awhile, but never had a problem again.

I'm hoping that replacing them with the toggle switch solves my problem

Is the switch rated at 8 amps ac or dc? Many times switches are rated at an ac amperage. If rated for ac, the dc rating would be much lower. Probably around 2 amps. Iirc, my NO purge is around 8 amps. Plus, your probably not capturing the in rush "spike" current, which then drops as the magnetic field saturates and then stabilizes.
