Default 80 Fox first 250 Hits w/E85 (ehh make that 350)

Made some good hits this weekend in Silver and got some new bests. Basics is 80 Fox 2820 w/driver, LS2, 404, trick flow 235s. Car ran a new best of 9.95 in the 1/4 on motor. First time trying the IS Sledgehammer on a 250 shot w/e85, running Ignite red. Tune was a little rich as I adjusted a little higher base fuel pressure for the nitrous to cover the higher ethanol of the ignite, but I think we can get a 5.3x still on the 250. Also was progressing 40%-100% in 1.20 seconds for the 1.21 60. Might be able to bring it in a hair faster. First time she come up good, so tightened up front shocks and limiters that kept her down.

More to come, she's rowdy. =)

First hit wheels up-
1.21 60 hit -

Cut over a half second in the 1/4 on motor with new cam and E85. For nitrous, it was very similar with c16 shot per shot, but now I’m shooting more so going faster.

Thank you Sir! It’s a Bob Cook spec’d cam from Cam Motion. Come out to 258/274 .731/.714.

Looks good, what LSA, 115?
Whose torque converter do you run and is it an 8"? Just curious, it runs pretty decent NA and bottled, so it looks to be really close.

Truck won a full size street truck shootout a few months back. Wasn’t really beating on it hard, ran some 6.3x’s at 20-21psi or so. A to B tune as I was about half second ahead of the guys I needed to beat for the money. I need a good track day to turn her up.

My new tuner!

Well one last update because I got picked up for a 6 month deployment. Now I get to read about everyone else having fun this summer lol. We did a 25 mile cruise/ street car shoutout and made some progress. We got beat by the guy who won, but hey that’s ok. I didn’t do much more testing on the 250 as I planned to run this car more on the 300-350 and the guys I race I need all that and then some. Soo, I made 2 hits on a 300 pulling 13 degrees from 28 and car picked up into the 5.3x area. Was running a little rich seeing some high 10s in high gear. I cleaned it up more each pass and it was picking up, but never got a good 11.5 airfuel pass. Without a way to pull the car around (golf cart is down) I wasn't able to get very good readings off the plugs. From what I could see, it was slightly rich and had room for more timing. Last two was on a 350, pulling 15 through peak torque, and 14 out past 6800. Again new jetting was a little rich touching some mid upper 10 afrs in high gear.

When I get home I need to either get some new slicks as these puppies are almost down to bottom of the wear indicators lol or consider going to a radial. I need to get the 60s in the 1.1x life as a nitrous car.

One question I have, even with some wiggle room on the 300 and 350 shot to pickup time, is a 258/274 .731/.714 114 LSA 110 ICL enough cam for a progressed 400-450? Or am I just asking for trouble. Figure timing will have to come down close 10-12 degrees as well at that point. Thoughts?

Overall, pretty damn happy with the setup. You all enjoy the summer!

You got that dialed in. Good job. I wouldn't sweat a 400 in your shoes. If your 300 tune up doesn't show much heat on the threads of your plugs I would try it. Bear in mind if your ramp in goes lean at all it will detonate quicker. I don't worry to much down track. I worry about the launch on the chip when it goes clean or rich if your spraying on the brake realease.
Are you using a stock ls2 block? I was planning an almost exact copy of what your doing. I just haven't decided to hard block or not.

Thanks and good to know, I’m getting a little lean spike still on the hit even though I run a return style fuel line to the fuel solenoid and also a 2 inch shorter fuel lines to the jets. I been adding fuel via the engine tune/injectors through the spike to help calm it down some as well.

The block is filled up to half way on the water ports, I’m hoping this helps keep the cylinders alive at that 4.005 bore. We will see. I still turn this thing pretty hard as well and thats my fault, most shifts around 7400-7600. It’s just seems to want to pull up there.

Im curious to how much timing guys are bringing in past peak torque on these 300+ tunes. Say your pulling 15 through peak torque, with higher rpms and less nitrous in the cylinders I would think you could ramp back a decent amount? I’ve only tried 1 -2 degree so far but wondering there if more is on the table.

Thanks man and as for the cam so far it’s seems to be a good fit for the combo.

Lean spike= detonation what do you consider lean on E85? I like 11.2 to 11.8 anything outside of that I play with the tune.. I once left my fuel ramp in a little to long (dry set up) and it speckeld the plugs a little. I am in the high 1.20's with a 150 off the hit. I run (2) 200 stages but haven't gotten the tune clean enough past 300. Any more that .5 ramp in and I am on the bumper.
If your ok now on 300 just bring the extra juice in after your AFR cleans up. As far as timing goes. If your current tune up is clean try and add 2 at a time were you want to. You will know after a pass if it liked it or not and not kill the motor. I see 1 or 2 tiny black specs when its not happy. They are so small I need a magnify glass to see them. On a clean tune you will know exactly were it go mad at you. Good luck and thanks for your service...

Looking at the logs you can see about .20-.30 seconds of the spike on hit then it settles down. You can also see where I’m commanding more in that spot from the tune. Not sure what else to do there other then ask for more fuel. Also notice the miss in high gear when it touched mid 10s, need to clean that spot up. I think it was a combination of slightly to rich on motor and some bottle pressure drop from the 350. I been starting at 900psi, finishing at 820 or so. Also was catching hell putting heat in the motor, it was about 55 degree outside. I like to see more around 160-170

Thanks for the info. I found the limits of my a1000 over the weekend. I may try the second pump trick . Gonna try the maganflow 4303 first and see how it goes.
