Default Retarding Timing for Nitrous using HP Tuners

Hi guys. I’ve got a question for guys running nitrous that pull timing using HP Tuners. I have been using a Lingenfelter Timing Device to pull nitrous and it works great. It is currently set-up to activate when my nitrous switch is armed. I’m going to have that changed to only arm at WOT and when the window switch enables the nitrous. Until I get the wiring changed pulling 12 degrees from the motor until the nitrous kicks in at 3000 rpm is ******* the motor off the line. My thought is I could just add 12 degrees of timing from say 1200 rpm to 2800 rpm to off-set the 12 degrees the Lingenfelter is pulling to get my timing back prior to the nitrous hit. I would think I would just highlight all the cells in the timing table from 1200 to 2800 (+12) and that would do it. I’m pretty comfortable with HP Tuners but have never messed with the timing tables. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!

It's pretty much that simple but when the nitrous isn't armed you'll have plus 12 degrees timing in there. Since you have hptuners get rid of the lnc2000 all together and use traction control or iat tricker to pull your timing. Pretty simple to set up with a 5 pin relay. Ave the relay trigger with the nitrous.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I thought it made sense but it never hurts to get a second opinion! If I ditch the Timing Tuner I’ll likely just pull timing from the timing table for the nitrous hits as I have to change shift points for the nitrous passes anyway.

You can use the IAT sensor. It has its own timing table. Its fairly common to either put it on a 5-pin relay and trigger a disconnect and then put how much timing you want to pull/add in the coldest column on the IAT table in the 90-100 kpa rows, or use resistors to force it to select a specific column in the IAT timing table. Coldest is usually the safest bet. Not too many people out driving their nitrous powered cars wide open in sub-zero temps.

I would just move the wire to trigger the LNC when the system fires. Should just take a couple minutes. Are you using any type of controller?

Default Hey Brandon...

If only it were that simple! We have attached the pink wire from the Lingenfelter to the orange wire on the Maximizer Progressive 5 Controller. In the Configuration screen it states select High Side Driver if you need a 12 volt signal to the Lingenfelder Unit which they say you do. With that set-up and 5% nitrous and WOT to send the signal all should be good. Unfortunately it doesn’t work. All of the instructions for the NX Controller speak to using one or two stages but we are using the AFR mode which used both Stages 1 and 2 to control air fuel. I have been told by NX that the tan wire cannot be used with the AFR mode. We are only using the pink wire but it still won’t activate the Timing Device. Everything works fine if set-up to work from the nitrous arming switch but then it pulls timing before the nitrous hit as well.

The power wire for the solenoids can even be used to trigger a relay to turn on the Lnc. The Lnc is nice and I have one but don't use it. I prefer iat because I can log a actual timing number not a calculated one.

Just for my information....since the IAT sensor is located in the MAF and the nitrous is introduced by the Direct Port after the MAF - how does the IAT then get triggered?

The same way as the Lnc. Whatever wire you use to trigger the Lnc would trigger a relay for the iat tricker. As Joe said above simply just disconnecting the iat sensor forces it to the coldest temp. So wire a relay in iat signal wire so when its activated it just breaks connection. And as said this method shows actual motor timing in your logs. Had a busy summer and haven't got to test my latest brain storm but it's a iat tricker for 2 kits. First kit 100 hp and second 250. Both kits can be fired individually or together and the tricker will target 3 different temps for 3 different timing numbers.

Not my pic, it's been around a while. If you want to force iat to coldest temp simply put nothing on 87. It's really that simple to use iat tricker to pull timing in a tune if you have hptuners or like.
