Default purge button question, please help..

I am using a SPST momentary switch, rated at 3A 125VAC,1A 250VAC.
Will this be sufficient to trigger my NX purge solenoid, or will I need a relay of some sort? Or could it be wired into my NOS 5177 kit somehow? this is almost my last connection, bottle is full, ready to rock and roll!

I always use a relay on my purge. For $3, it's good insurance against melting a switch.

Run a relay... just makes sense.

could someone please tell me how to run a relay in this situation? I am unfamiliar with them and have never hooked one up before. The one in my NOS 5177 kit was prewired, just put the colors where they go and voila!

I have NO idea how to do it from scratch.

PLEASE HELP

I do have some electrical skill, just not with relays.
thanx-William

30 to 12v power source (ie: remote terminal under hood)
85 to switch -> power source in car
86 to ground
87 to purge solenoid -> ground

I don't understand.
30 goes to my battery(or whatever)
85 to positive side of in car switch?
86 to chassis ground?
87 to one side of my purge solenoid

am I to assume that I then run the final wire between the negative side of in car switch to the other side of solenoid?

please help. make any corrections you need and let me know.

Sounds like you've got it.

Just think of it like this... If you put voltage through 85 and 86, you'll close the circuit between 30 and 87.

Hot wire (+12) -> In-car switch -> 85
86 -> Ground

When you turn your switch on (close that connection), the connection will be closed between 30 and 87. Hook up +12 to 30, hook up one of your solenoid wires to 87 and hook the other to ground.

Hot wire (+12) -> 30
87 -> Solenoid wire 1
Solenoid wire 2 -> ground

Now that you've got a base understand of what relays do, you can do all kinds of things with them... just remember, when you put a voltage from 85 to 86, it closes the connection on 30 and 87. Now you can use them to ground, power, or (with a normally-closed five post relay) remove power or ground.

Hope that helps.

OK, let me get this perfecrly straight before I start, because I think I had it wrong before.

I take 12v and run it through my in car switch (in and out) and connect this to 85? 86 is ground, 30 gets 12v and 87 goes to one of my solenoid wires, the other is simply grounded? If this is correct let me know, I did not realize the relay had 2 12v inputs(if that is correct). Does either 12v input 30 or 85 matter if it is switched or unswitched?

Should I do the same thing for my line lock?
Are there multiple accesory relay's? or just one for each?

thank you for your help..

You've got it. The 12V for your in-car switch or for 30 can be switched or unswitched. If you want to be able to purge with the car off, make them unswitched. If you just need it when car is running (that's how mine is), run it on a switched source.

Do it however you want, but here's exactly how I'd recommend (this is how mine is):

Switched 12V -> One side of switch
Other side of switch - >85
86 -> Ground

Unswitched 12V -> 30
87 -> Sol wire1
Sol wire 2 -> Ground

Should I do the same thing for my line lock?
