Default Running around with the bottle open?

I was wondering how long you can have the valve on the bottle open when your not spraying? Reason being is it will be in the spare tire well, and if I head out for a few hours, can I just turn the bottle on and drive, so if I run into somebody I'll be ready? It would suck if I was cruising down the parkway and come up against something that I would need the juice, and I wouldn't have the bottle on. Always wondered about this and I have a kit on the way, so it was time to find out the answer. NOS 5177 BTW, thanks guys.

I'd recommend a remote opener. I wouldn't want to wear the solenoids by having 1100 psi pushing against them for hours on end.

I was wondering the same thing as well. I would like to hear one of the sponsor/veterean nitrous user's opinion on this.

Not the greatest for the noids. I have gone around for a hour or two or three though with a couple of mine that I had spray on.

both are correct its unneeded stress on the solenoids..crappy feeling when you go to wack the spray an nothing happens

I run around with mine open all the time and have never had a problem. As long as you don't hold the bottle at 1,100+psi you should be ok. Plus, since you have a 5177 your only putting pressure on the first solenoid if something where to go wrong with it.

It'd be cool to have the remote opener, I just won't be getting one anytime soon. Thanks for the info.

I used to go around for weeks at a time with my bottle open. Just make sure there are no leaks anywhere or you will find you are out of nitrous when you try to use it

What about after you are done spraying and have the bottle closed, should the line that goes to the 'noid be flushed? I live in WA and it gets cold.

I alway bleed the line, you don't want to start-up on no2, just to be safe

I have my bottle opener/noid on switched 12v so anytime I have the ignition on the bottle is open. I do this also for arming and blanket. No wondering is this or that on and is bottle pressure up. i agree with above that 5177 with redunant noids you should be fine and with a third at bottle your very safe. I would recomend that you test all fittings with dish soap/h2o solution to find any leaks otherwise it's a go for me to leave bottle open all the time. Robert

edit: I don't bleed off n2o at night when car goes to bed, why waste it. If it were a single noid system I would consider, but the chances of two noids going out at the same time and bleeding into engine is very remote.

You could be talking more of a chance since your running only one noid on a wet kit. I don't bleed mine at night but it would be a good idea to do it. You wouldn't really be wasting very much N2O, I remember seeing a post about how much nitrous an 18' 4AN line holds and it was hardly nothing.

Well I use to do that. Run with it open. Then I moved the bottle to the back seat. I removed one seat and mounted it to the seat mounts. Well with in arms reach. I have tinted windows, so I just put a black towel over the bottle. This way it was safe, but ALWAYS ready for action. I use to keep the bottle pressure up all the time. I wouldn't pull out of the driveway until the bottle was at 1000 psi.
