Default How much can rear handle?

I have a healthly block (98 ta with a 04 gto block) lt Hookers, Magnaflow catback, soon nitto 555 285/40/17s in back. Plan on running 100-150 shot.I plan on upping the shot later on and getting a 9" rear with 4.10 gears and 3600-3800 stall are these mods prioritized right? Thanks for any input.

Nittos will blow the hell off, so you wont stick very well, which is good, saves the shock to the rear. Trans will be an issue, stockers only last so long, and the torque from a 150 shot off the line will kill a trans if not taken care of. Stall before gears. Rear should last a healthy portion, as I am relying on the tires not holding the power out of the hole. If you dont spray out of the hole, the rear will last much, much, much longer.
Is the GTO block stock cam & heads? I would look into upgrading those as well.

Ok, but they arent ported yet, so your in the zone. Prioritizing is on you really. I did my suspension before H/C.

Are you running an A4 or M6? The automatic is more forgiving and you can push the 10 bolt pretty far if you don't come out of the hole on the bottle (not a chance of that with Nittos). On the street you should be ok but, I've seen 350rwhp cars break 10 bolts on the street. Wouldn't hurt to pull the cover, inspect everything and put some fresh oil back in it.

Those 17" nittos play hell on the rear because they have no sidewall. Prone to wheel hop and you're done. If you want to launch hard at the track, get some MT ET Street radials 15" or 16"... much more forgiving IMO. Of course launching hard on a 10-bolt is only gonna last so long especially with M6. The 17" nittos will serve you well for street rolls.

Not sure on the wheel hop issue there, normally you need some kind of traction to get it, and I have run several sets of Nittos, better then street tires yes, but no way near sticky enough to hop for me and that was before and after suspension. Also, he is an A4 not an M6.

Yeah its an automatic, I know if I want performance I m gonna sacrifice mileage but what tires would be alright at track and good on street? OR should I just buy two sets of tires 1 for street and 1 for track for a < 150 shot ?

The track I go to has very good prep. Have seen a few cars (not just F-bod) break drivetrain parts with 17" nittos on wheel hop because the sidewall is stiff. Nittos are a good compromise on the street and generally most public roads don't offer enough traction to cause a problem.

If you're going to the track, get a tire with a taller soft sidewall and tread... It won't shock the drivetrain as hard and will perform better. A seperate set of street and track tires is obviously the way to go. You can get a used set of 16 x 8 f-bod wheels for cheap and mount up a set of 255-50-16 MT ET Street Radials... drive it to the track and drive it home. This is what I use and it provides plenty of traction in my application.

I have an 02Z. 39k miles, nittos, 8 track passes in 4 years, A/T, 2.73 gears, barely 300hp to the wheels, and it just started making noise. What a POS!!! Im saving for a strange 12-bolt w/3.42's. So far i have $200. I have a looong way to go. Im convinced that these rears SUCK PERIOD!
