So guys I am interested in if anyone on here has some nitrous horror stories. Basically I am trying to figure out how much damage nitrous has caused people, whether it be something minor to blowing your intake off. Oh yeah and lets include money spent and time lost on damages. So Lets post em up!!!

 

my buddy had a smallblock witha blower on his s10... the nitrous just totaly destroyed that motor...

he claims it owuld have been alright if he wouldn't have had such tight ring gap...

 

2 chipped pistons and a huge hole in the head, not an ls1 though. the hole is from detination only and the chips probaly didnt happen at the same time. lets just say the shot was very very large, worked out a few times then once it just detinated.

 

Nitrous doesn't mess up engines. Bad tunes, Idiots & other factors mess up engines. The same detination that messed up the piston & head in the above pic could have happened just as easily on an NA motor with too much compression & timing for the Fuel octane used or any number of other issues.

Now to what can happen in a worst case senerio from any of the aboved mentioned...
Look at your car and your own health and well being.... NOW throw it into a giant whoooopsss *** blender from about an hour. Get the picture. Just like life and driving down the freeway, you can loose everything in a blink.

4* over stock timing + 100 shot of nitrous= 2 busted pistons and 2 cylinder sleeves ruined...= 2 years of down time and about 17 grand spent and still not exactly finished yet

 

Okay even so. I would still like to hear the stories. The reason being is to get some insight on issues people have had rather it be there fault or not. Plus its fun to talk about and show pics of.

 

hasnt happened to me but the guy at the yello bellly dindt open up the bottle and he shot a shot and blew the carb way up in the air, als bluw out th ehood and everyting on the motor into the air. was a pretty kikc *** sight!

 

one of the biggest problems you will face is what HP to stop at. Greedy HP lover we all are and 10.00 worth of jets can get you to go a little faster. personal self control, nitrous like birthcontrol YOU"VE got to have self control. LOL

The worst thing that ever happened to me was hitting the rev limiter while spraying. It backfired which fried my MAF and cracked my airbox, needless to say I bought a window switch the next day

 

burnt half my exhaust valve off and melted 3 plugs b/c my fuel solenoid plunger decided not to let the noid open and allow the fuel to get through.
despite all this happening, didnt hurt the piston or ring glands one bit... --------->LS1.

 

How can any of these be horror stories? I would expect something like...

Well I was in the finals, in the other lane was John Force. I purged a little to let him I was there to **** his world up. As he satged, I tool my time, made him wait and wonder if I was nervous or what. Finally I trip the beams, and go shallow. Pull the rpms up and as the green come up, I am wheels up, I see John sitting there like a chump, not realizing I'll break the beams on my rear tires, just like my 60'. Then the 1st Stage hits, I pull away from him like walking a dog, satge 2 flows as second gear grabs....It pulls hard, but I start breaking traction and I can the chump pulling up hard, he's all over the track trying to catch me. Alll of a sudden, I hear a cough, then the motor stumbles..the front finally settles, and here comes John picking up the pace, ****, WTF is going on...Then it strikes me, I forgot to use the full bottle with a bottle heater. Spraying the 400 shot I do, the bottle temp drops so quick it cant flow enough for the whole run....as my I realize my car is running on a 2:1 AFR and stalling out near the 1000' mark, I reach over to shut the nitrous system off..John is bumper to bumper with me, but he has momentum, my AFR clears up as I lift the front across the traps, but John Force got me...he takes the win .0001 difference. ****.

Now thats a horror story. The **** you guys are posting is the covert way to get yourself a new engine ****. Cant replace what aint broke right? Dial that spray up to 300+, AFR leaned out to 13.8:1 and go get yourself a stroker!

Oh yeah, for reject, are you sure the bottle was closed? Never heard of a car running super rich blowing the carb off. Sounds like the guy tested the nitrous with the key off, then started the engine blowing off the carb, or had started spraying way to low rpm and puddled.

 

he shot super low, littelry when he launched at the staging lanes the car's carb blew off. it was on a 79 camaro btw, so i'm guessing he was doing a large shot.

 

Yeah too low rpm, the velocity of the incoming air is too slow and allows the heavy mix to puddle, very uncommon, but it happens. Pop goes the weasel.

 

i wish i had the camara with me that day, when i mean the carb flew off i mean it littelry shot up in the air WAY high, the fiberglass hood just shot everwhere all into the stands and the front of the car cought on fire, it was total carnage.

and the car was pink too!
