Default 860 spare tire mount doesn't fit

I have a 2000 convertible and this mount is driving me up the wall. Totally doesn't fit in the area its supposed to, before I wind up having to cut this thing up to make it work, is there something that I am missing?

When I get ahold of a digital camera I will take a few pictures and post them in this thread. Shouldn't be longer than a day at max. Thanks for responding guys.

Its like the mount is too long for the area that I'm placing it in. Well lets say too wide as the distance between where my well goes down and width of the mount from tabs to the end is too long. If that gives a proper description, somewhere I had found a post where a guy had to cut some of the tab off to make it fit correctly. Can't find it now but I will take some pictures for you.

I installed one on a LT1 car where we had to cut about 1 inch off the bracket to get it to sit down in the area like it was suppose to. The Convertable may be the same way..

I cut mine too. My post was probably the one that the OP was referring to.

I bought my 860 bottle bracket thing from Nitrous Outlet and it fit perfect. I get complements on it all the time to those that are lucky enough to get a peep..haha

When we were in Kansas City a few of us installed one in Kyles LT1 Formula and had to cut about 1 inch off the bracket to clear the frame rail. It only took a second and was very easy. I guess the LT1 car and LS1 car are different in that area. I am going to have to review if the bracket will have enough structual support on a LS1 car if we just made it 1 inch shorter on the side supports. If not the LT1 guys may just have to cut that 1 inch off in order for it to fit... Just guessing at this point.. Ill look into it and play around with it later this week.

Its wierd that some of the LT1 guys are just now speaking up..

Well I spoke up right when I installed mine. You are right though I took off about an inch for it to clear, you can see it in the pics in my other thread.

Its odd that I'm an LS1 car and having that issue as well. Looks like the pictures in the post sited above are very similar to the issue that I am having.

The convertables must be different from the regular LS1 cars..

Just cut it and be done. I used a hacksaw and was finished in like 10-15 minutes. I was pretty relieved though after I found out that other LT1 guys were having problems like me with the bracket. In my thread I was pretty sad that it may have been because of the little wreck my car was in. But as mentioned the wreck was not a direct hit to me, it was a hit to my Mom's van then my Mom's van bumped me enough to crack the taillight and put a hole in my bumper. When I made the post and people asked about the wreck I was all sad that my car may be twisted somehow. LOL Good thing it's not.

Guess I'll have to take the hacksaw out of the van.

Least its not a catastrophic thing. So take off about an inch?

Yeah, about an inch did it. She's in there now all snug. Guys might want to see who else has had issues with the 860 mount and toss a disclaimer up there, could be a select style that isn't making it for whatever reason.

not to be rude, but your car could have been hit in that side at some point and not pulled back out all the way. Dunno? just throwing the idea out there. I have seen many similar instances in the collision game.

could also be they just made that section different on the verts, to make room for the top mechanism or something...
