I use to be a Vol firefirghter but had to take a leave of abscent because of school. I also use to work for the Ambulance district here but did not have the time to put in with them so they laid me off. I work 40 hours a week and go to college half time. Thats enough for me.

So I know I have talk about doin something to my motor for some time now and never got around to do it..lol.. I got my payments on my car down to 130. Now I'm saving my self around 700 a month. I want to do a forge rotating assembly, forge pistons, heads and cam. I figure around 4500 for both from Texas speed. I know there will be more I will have to spend but it's just a ball park figure. I wanna spray a 150shot so I need to know what type of pistons should I use? There are so many differnt types of set up it's got my brain spinning. I wanna maybe use the same heads as Joe got but would those be good enough to spray with and last a long time.. I wanna a big cam, but I have read alot about people useing smaller cams for N2O. Why is that?

Any info would be good thanks!

I would buy a 9" first then you can see where your engine can take you. Maybe do a similar build to jsafe's. but post this in the nitrous section you will get help there.

Yeah I think you're rght Brandon. Don't want to get to ahead of my self and have to much power for the rearend. maybe I can get a good deal on one from ebaymotors? Or maybe on here.

I'll post something on the N2O section and see what comes up.

my head and cam package with all the gaskets cost me $2500, you should get pistons with valve releifs and mill your heads. i wanted to get an underdrive pulley 36lb injectors and a high volume fuel pump. and i would have milled the heads and flycut the pistons, but these builds get to be more expensive than you would think. if your looking into nitrous go with harris speed works, they sell a kit for 400 bucks, and 700 bucks after window switch and purge kit. i was gonna go with this kit but decided to go with head and cam instead. they are a very reputible company.

I would love to do a 408. But too much money when all said and done. I can save myself like 2000 by doing it this way. That's rearend right there

joe: can't wait to see her run

I think Harris speed is who I will go through. Alot of people have gon through them.

Are you wanting to bore/stroke your existing LS1 block or go with something bigger?

People that spray regularly go with a smaller cam because they don't need to spin the engine high on the bottle. It makes for a more reliable setup by keeping the rpm's down. Here's two fictional examples:

-Big cam 408 makes 530rwhp + a 150 shot (680 total) but it peaks at 6800rpm

-Small cam 408 makes 500rwhp + a 150 shot (650 total) but it peaks at 6200rpm

The smaller cam engine will last much longer (safer rpms) and be easier to tune on the bottle. The smaller cam engine would also be safer to tune for a 200 shot.

There are quite a few good piston makers around. Diamond, Wiseco and Mahle and are very good and will easily handle a 150 shot. If you're looking to go with anything bigger than a 200 shot then I'd suggest a mandatory 2618 alloy. Some of Mahle and Wiseco forged pistons use 4032 alloy which are strong, but not really made for big nitrous or boost.

Send me a pm if you want and I can help point you in a good direction.

Mike
