Default A sad day in GM history

I wish I had what ever it is going to take to get the 93 572 project...

Gm's fire sale

GM is Auctioning Vehicles Out of Its Heritage Center
By Brian Lohnes Posted 12/18/08
Just like it reads: General Motors is having a fire sale, getting rid of some one-offs and automotive oddities from its collection. Below you will find a list of vehicles (this may or may not be the complete list) that GM will peddle at the Barrett-Jackson auction coming up in January.

You’ll see tons of killer stuff built during the Jon Moss era, some musclecars, a couple '89 Corvette ZR1s, and more. Look at the list. It’s everything from the brass era of automobiles to present.

As it looks the company has decided not to touch any of the concept cars…yet. Frankly, nothing is safe. GM needs money to live and it’s starting to consume itself to get it.

There’s not much more to say on this. We’ll keep you updated on the progress of this story as more news breaks. (thanks dagenesta!)

Here’s the list:

The sad part of this is that even if they got top dollar for everything that sold say via Barretts Auctioneers, the proceeds would be a pitance compared to what they are loosing. But at the same time I wish I had some serious cash on hand that I could throw away and get a couple of those cars that are listed.

I hear you Tom. At the same time I would give my Left nut to have a factory tuned 572 4th gen that ran nines with a 6 speed

This is very sad indeed. As those are some one-offs that cannot be replaced. The 1993 Camaro ZL-1 "572" is one sweet ride...

It's probably not just the cars themselves that will save them $, but also being able to sell the buildings that house them and then lay off the people who take care of them.

It is sad indeed, but at least it shows how serious they are about trying to keep afloat.

Like said above, sadly even if they all sold at top dollar it would probably be a drop in the bucket compared to what the UAW leeches from GM every day...rat bastards.

But of course!

I see a 94 Lingenfelter Bird on the list too. Do you suppose that was THE prototype LS car? Dang, I need to rob a bank.

Great cars, If I was the General I would fiend all those cars too

Can you blame UAW for the bargaining agreement they have or do you blame mgmt for agreeing to the terms?

Economy is hot topic now, don’t despair though the great one will start the road and bridge projects soon, but guess who will get the work? The lowest bidders with the cheapest labor crew.
