Default broke somethin

Going home from work today and goosed it, then bang. Lost all forward gears. So lucky because I was almost home. Not really sure what's wrong, but I think the clutch went. Oh well maybe its time for a twin disk. Listen when I put into 6th.

Hate to hear this, Chris. I take it that the engine is fine I hope? I would think this is a clutch too but there maybe a little more to it than that. I will be the first to say call Mr. Groo.

Damn that sucks Chris! My motto is "if it broke, it was too weak. Go big or go home"...

Actually, my motto is "Damn, how much is THAT going to cost?"

Chris are you sure you did not break the Diff or an axle? A Clutch usually makes alot of noise

I'm not really sure, but could swear the noise is coming from the bell.

Does the speedo still register when you put it in gear and let the clutch out? Might be able to narrow down where the parts stop spinning that way....

I'll admit I don't know fuckall about the corvette transmission / axle but if the speed sensor is on the output shaft of the tranny, and it's registering speed on your speedo then......

No speedo action, I can put into any gear with the clutch out and just growls, loudest in 6th...

I'm guessing the sound is from the bell, but not sure. I hope the trans is OK so I have a good core trade for an automatic swap. Not many options but a built 4L60 or a glide.

Hmmm, maybe someone could chime in with where the vette gets it speed readings from...

Gets Speed off of the diff

There are a few things that can let go. BUT IF is is making noise as you go through the gears it may be main shaft failure.

Yeah maybe the trans because it coasted nicely, and it growls the most in 6th gear. I can't believe it let go with street tires on a cold road. After all the 5K rpm dumps on ET street were just fine.

one 6 speed for sale CHEAP!

Sure sounds like the trans since the noise varies with what gear you're in. If it were clutch i'd think it would be equal no matter what gear.

You're right, rule out the clutch... I went outside for careful listen, and yes the noise is from the rear. Confirmed there is no speedo...

So yeah it's a broken diff output, or maybe trans output. Is there any way to test?

I know a couple vettes around here have busted a diff output shaft. I wonder if the speedo is dead in both cases?

Yep dead in both cases cuz it's in the diff as Ellis stated.
Whether it's input or output Without pulling the trans I doubt there's any way to tell..

Ellis....????

Tome to pop the diff out and have a look Chris

BTW it was not the street driving that broke it. It was those Hard launches where it was shaking the tires You know the ones I am talking about. The fracture happened then in the harderning. You just finished tearing through the soft area

Well if your still selling the 6 speed . . . . .

Aren't you running hardened output shafts? Do you have a diff brace? Are you still running the factory diff?

Haha you guys are a bad influence.

If I follow that theory, then no question this is the way to go. 2 speeds, fast and faster right?
