Simple Green. I use the simple green automotive, I don't know if it is any different, so I might just be a tool.

Can simple green discolor the aluminum block and head? I thought I read that somewhere?

Man I wouldn't let a hose within 10 feet of an LT1 car with an open hood!!!

I'm very sneaky and I just don't let the opti know what I'm doing until im already finished.. No problems so far.. I usually cover it up with a bunch of rags and just avoid that spot. On the simple green bottle it says to not leave the stuff on aluminum for more than 10 minutes I think because if you let it stay on there for extended amounts of time it will corrode. My intake still looks nice and I have used simple green on it numerous times.

Cool!! I already have a bottle of it in my garage I'll do this tommorow before I start the clay bar, Porter cable polish and top with Zaino process. Hopefully I can get it all done before going to the track on the 11th. Part of me just wants to clay bar it and throw another coat of NXT. I thought we were going to have couple of more months of rain and the car would be in "garage mode" Now I don't want to put it out of commission for the full treatment.....

Yeah I may have to do that saturday as well... except I'll just be doing the coat of ColoRx and NXT no clay bar yet until after the body work gets done. Maybe I'll even clean the engine bay

Oh yeah, and be careful with the simple green. I would cut that 10 minutes in half just to be safe.

Simple green works fine and if you've got use it. However if you are starting fresh I like a product called Honda Brite as it leaves the rough cast aluminum parts brighter than simple green. You can buy at a Honda Motorcycle dealer, I'm sure Bob Lamphere's in Beaverton stocks it.

And know it won't make your car grow a picnic bench size spoiler.

kent makes the best stuff, but i've never seen it anywhere but the dealer. just make sure it doesn't discolor your hoses. some of the more agressive ones will spot them and turn them white

Bobby,

If yours turns out nice when you are done you can start on mine if you want to. Might wanna take a vaction though cause it will take a while to clean. Josh(rookieLS1) can vouch for how dirty it is. So can some of the other guys up there in Washington.

Get a tooth brush! I use one with a cup of concentrated zaino soap and scrub those tough corners.

Heat the engine for 10-15 seconds before you start (not heat the engine up hot, just to knock the chill off the engine). Wash it (use HOT water), scrub it with the tooth brush, rinse it then start it up and the heat will help evaporate some of the dirt away.

I use Simple Green too. Spray it down with water (to prevent the spotting) spray on SG, hit it with a tooth brush & spray it off right away. Avoid sensors....it is citric acid.

**** Creek!! I love the stuff. We must be long lost brothers. Use a leaf blower to dry the engine bay. Do not spray water at your intake below the throttle body. Water and simple green will go under in the valley area and corrode your knock sensors. Don't ask how I know but the dealer told me he had never seen one like that before.....
