I did something like that once by accident. I had my hand on the shifter once & it stuck the launch. I pulled it into 2nd at about the 10' mark & by the time I got it back into 1st it was too late. Cost me about 3/10ths. It would easily have been the best 60' the car ever ran too.
You are not manually shifting a f-body automatic are you? If you are, your have Zero reason to. Same thing with the GTO, just put it in D and step on the go peddle. Running these cars for quite awhile now, honestly just let it shift its self, if you want different shift points then get a tuner and program them.

No, I do not manually shift my car at the track. I had out of bad habit laid my hand on the shifter. Don't even know why I do it. Probably because it reminds me of holding my old T-handle.... Anyways, I was just sharing the difference it made for ref.
Ok, cool. Just checkin'. I had launched in second gear once aagianst the Groo, never lived it down. I just wanted to know if it has any potential of hurting the trans if it was done continuously.

Ryan I would rop the shift points first. It should not hurt it much by launching in 2nd. Going to put ALOT of stress on the intermediate planet is about all I can think of. If the band lets go you should know right away
