Default Coil Relocation Kit Info

I forget who asked, but someone wanted to know about these kits.

I have learned much over the last 2 days about them. Thunder only sells them with bare aluminum brackets & black wires. If you want colored wires (red, blue or yellow) you can call Jay Fisher Pontiac & Jay will sell you some. He also has sets for Vettes, which coincidentally move the coils to the radiator shroud, so you also need to pay another $200 for wire harness extensions.

Or if you are like me and are thinking about building your own, the coil pack connectors are available from Jay (GM) for $30 each with 8" pigtails & splices.....and you need 4 - 2 male & 2 female. Makes hacking my wire harness up sound better all the time.

So, who does anodizing around here?

How much are the colored wires from Jay Fisher? I'm thinking of getting the relocation kit (just to make things like plug changes and valve spring/rocker arm checks easier), but it would be nice to have red wires instead of the standard black.

I think the kit from Jay cost me $20 more than what Thunder sells it for. And I believe it's because the wires come with Moroso covers on them. (so they turn out to be 11mm wires)

I decided to pony up the extra $120 for the connectors & build my own extension cables to preserve my stock wire harness. Figuring at some point I may want / need to revert back. (and replacing that would cost a LOT more) Even the wife thought it was the right thing to do. Spooky huh?

You mentioned where this relocates it for a Vette. Where does it relocate it on the fbody?

I might shoot you a pm for more info on this...where you found the info etc.

On f-bods the coils are relocated under the cowl, directly above the valve covers on each side. If you go to Thunder Racing's website & search under Ignition you should find the link. It really cleans up the engine bay & makes changing plugs a LOT easier. Not sure how mine is going to look. I am going to go the extra mile to dress it up, but the coils are f-ugly be design so......

And since you have great looking valve covers, you really benefit from the coil packs being relocated... you don't want those ugly *** things blocking the view of the covers, even if you could make them fit in the OEM spot.

I just want the kit to get the damn things out of my way...

I have been toying with this concept for a while now..........after doing a couple header installs and changing the plugs on more then a couple LS1's I would REALLY love to have my coil packs out of the way.

Thanks for the info brother.

That would be cool. My valve covers & TB are all powder coated in 'red anodized color'. I can ask Nasty if he can get the paint code for me. I'd ask Jantzer, who did my tb, but he more or less got out of the game.

According to Nasty this is how you get the red anodized look with powder coats:

There is no code for powder coating it is Lolley pop red over silver base to get that color kinda like a candy apple red.

Seems to match....different color from Boyce's "Candy Apple Red powder coat" tho.

And yes Rott, Scott had some stuff happen & had to give it up.

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.

This is the "while we're there" project...and the coil is going to die on me anyway. It would be slick to stuff that out of the way and give me more than face space with the hood open.

Close. Waiting on Sardog to bring the brackets over, the blue hose ends to come in, and the coil pack connectors to get here from Jay Fisher. If that was all here, I'd be done in 2-3 hrs. I'm shooting for Friday.

PERFECT! We need to get together so I can show you what I want done, and you can tell me when you can do it & what it would cost. I'm thinking of doing the brackets in that color & then making a cover for each coil pack for shows & having Todds guy carbon fiber them. (to match my lid)

The kit at TR is $312 bucks without the valve covers. How often do you change your plugs?
