Default Pulley's ASP or SLP?

I've pretty much decided to go with a pulley for my goat. Tbyrne has both ASP and SLP pulleys. Do any of you have experience with either of these brands? Is there a noticeable difference between the two in either performance or ease of installation? ASP also offers an alternator underdrive(-15%) any idea whether that is worth it as well as the primary pulley?

Ellis, do you need to tune for a pulley or is that "tune neutral". I am thinking of paying for priority shipping so I can get it on and to the track. I want that 13 before the end of the season!

Really makes that much of a difference? Any dyno numbers / track times?

I've been on the fence about pulleys, anybody know what they're worth in the quarter? Can you really feel a seat of the pants difference?

I had the ASP underdrive with the Alt overdrive on my car & I gained almost nothing at the dyno or track. I hear a lot of people talk about them, but I was pretty meticulous in documenting all my mods & I know what did & did not work on my car. The car did seem to run a few * hotter, and they do not fit with dbl roller timing chains (which is why it's on Tranzors car now)

Personally I would buy MAF ends if you want more power & no tuning issues. I found them to be worth about 2/10ths at the track when you have a lid & K&N on an F-body (should be about the same with a CAI on a GTO). Cheaper & MUCH easier to install too.....

628 ft. lbs you should be able to feel that in the seat of your pants and so should the guy in the next lane.

Alright, help my newbieness...I've seen bigger MAFs for sale. I've seen people pull screens from MAFs. But I don't know what a "MAF end" is or what "lid" refers to. Someone throw me a friggin' bone here.

If you look at your MAF closely you'll see its a three peice setup. The actual MAF is in the middle of the two end peices. You can modify those end peices. The lid is just the air cleaner cover.

MAF = Mass Air Flow

Unscreened - Screened

and here's a Lid, but I don't think a GTO has one, Ellis says your CAI (Cold air intake)is basically your Lid:

BTW We WILL have to tune for MAF ends I have had good luck with Pullies. LT1 cars did not show much of a gain because they turned the Water pump the same speed even with no belt LS1 cars (like cars of old) seemed to show more.

The Idea came from the OLD Z28s the high winding motors would blow up accessory's so they slowed them down. At the same time they picked up a few HP

Now on my 95 I never documented a change at all. I just put them on when the blower came off. On my 74 Z28 with a 327 it took me from low 14.2s to 14.oh on a regular basis. I ahve been sold since

I have the ASP's on my car and while I did not document hp differances ala dyno or track times I did definitely notice a differance in how quick it would rev just sitting there in neutral blipping the throttle. WS6.com documented a 6-7 hp increase with them

I have an ASP underdrive, no problems with it at all, installed easy and hasnt fallen apart. Car did seem to rev quicker when it was installed. It takes weight and stress directly off the crank, which is always a good thing.

I had an ASP underdrive pulley installed and I picked up a full tenth out at Monroe on a 1/8 mi track. Even the guys I raced against noticed I was running faster. The only thing I don't like is the T/A is harder to steer @ idle.

I know this to be true as it was the only mod I did between racing weekends. It got me to the 7.6xx.

Thanks for explaining things. I didn't realize the MAF could be customized to such a high degree.

It sounds like everyone here who has a pulley has gone w/ASP. I am thinking I'll probably only do the main pulley, and not the alternator pulley. I do love cranking the stereo, running the a/c and the lights are always on. With both pulleys you apparently need an extra 150 rpm on idle to keep the same charge level as with just the primary pulley.

Hey Ellis, you have an impact wrench and whatever other tools are needed? If I order on Monday and Fed-Ex it I could have it available for install on Wednesday.
