Default Need some help with the airtube delete......

Alright here's the story............

I have a 2000 C5 and 98-00 have there passanger side air tube farther back on the exhaust manifold than 01-04. So when I do the header install, I have to remove the intake manifold and all kinds of other little crap to pull that air tube off from behind the intake manifold area, just to swap the pipe out with a longer one (which comes with the headers) that will attach to the air tube location on the headers. But over at corvetteforum, they are saying I can delete the airtube.

So, what exactly is the air-tube for and should I delete it?

Since my headers don't have cats, would it still be okay to use the air tube even though there won't be any cats to warm up?

I think I'll just put the air tube extension on........

If your cats are gone, there is no need for the AIR anymore. Ellis posted it's only use.

Mark, I noticed that you had yours deleted. How easy is it to do? What exactly do I have to do, and would it benifit me? Also, my passanger side air tube will still be hanging loosly, will that be okay?

Thanks for your help guys...........they guys over at corvetteforum aren't my speed if you know what I mean! They are more snooty than LS1tech.

Deleting the air on an F-Body is easy. I took of the tubes and ripped everything out, then cut the ends off the the tubes and welded up the holes and bolted them back down as my block offs.

It's easy to do just unbolt put a block off plate there and delete the codes from the computer. I've had mine deleted for a while. And with an ORY there is no need for the AIR system as there are no cats to heat up lol. Heck a lot of cars don't come with an AIR system that have cats anyways. GM seems to like to do it though.

Here is where you can find instructions with pictures.

www.ls1camaro.net

Other great sites are;

www.installuniversity.com
www.ls1howto.com

It an easy enough project that Mark assigned it to me to do as a homework assignment when we were doing my cam swap.

That's fine.......I don't have tools to weld it closed.

Where did you get your plate covers Mark, and where can I get some by Thursday?

I don't have anything to turn off the codes either, nore do I have the money right now to pay for a tuner to do it.................So I think I'm forced to put the extension on and deal with it till another time. I always get the shitty end of the stick......

Or you could just take it out now, and have the SES be a constant reminder and motivation to get a tune You are going to NEED a tune anyways after your header install or you will not be seeing your full potential power at all. Night and day before and after tune after long tube install for me.

Yeah.........I know!! I just don't have the money right now. I'll definately do it when I can afford it. I want to have Ellis tune it on a dyno though! I'll have to talk to him after I'm done.

So those of you who deleted your air tubes, how did you get the air tube bracket off the back of the header?

If I take of off now, how can I do it without removing the intake manifold, and won't it hurt my car not having the bracket to close off the manifold?

Well, I'll try to get the covers in time. If I can't get them by Friday, I'll just have to delete them another time.

So why do people delete them? Does this delete give you more HP?

It cleans up the engine bay so much it is sickening. I couldn't believe what kinda space was found by getting rid of all that extra.

No, it's basically just to clean up the eng bay & have better access to the spark plugs.

And Ellis can blow that SES code away for you.....
