Default Dyno difference's

I have heard that there is a difference inbetween dynoing on a dynojet and then running the same car on a mustang dyno. Anyone know if this is factual? Reason I am asking is that one a local volvo wagon just put down 301 whp on a mustang dyno!

Factual.

Mustang puts the car under a load, whereas the Dynojet is initera based by measuring the acceleration of a known mass.

Mustang reads a percentage "lower" but typically is perceived to be a better choice when tuning.

Dyno outputs are pretty subjective either way ... best and only way to see how the car is doing is track times.

Brand name of a given type.

Both the dynojet and mustang are roller based.

301 on a Mustang is pretty impressive for a Vulva. That would be close to 350 on a Dynojet. You been sneakin parts on that car Boyce? Or was that Poik?

PS Sorry I didn't make it out Boyce. But I just put my dog down that day & I was not in any mood to be drinking in public. I know me TOO well.....

Wasnt my car. It was one of the admin cars on www.volvospeed.com. 98 V70 T5M Station wagon. He isnt a HP guy and hasnt spent alot of time around a drag strip. He has big "18's on it and really stiff suspension. And he doesnt really know how to prep a car for a run. His "60ft was like a 2.6 or something but his trap speed was 111mph. So the potential is there for a LOW LOW 13 (given the weight of the car), maybe even a high 12 if he could get it to hook and not break anything.

My goal for the car was to lay down 300whp, anything over that is icing on the cake!

Yeah, I hear they have a redblock to fix the sideways engine bit

Were you at that meet awhile ago in Bellingham that I stumbled upon? You'd probably recognize my car, and someone asked if I knew Boyce.

difference is anywhere from 8-12% depending on the dyno's involved. 301 is pretty good for a volvo

Pssh. 110mph was enough for the old Z28 to run 11.8x's and .9x's with. :p Not that I expect anyone in a volvo leave hard enough to do that though.

That said, a Volvo w/ 300hp at the wheels is pretty amazing in anyones book.... Definetly would see it coming in a game of tag on 405......

[QUOTE=Tylerb59]Factual.

QUOTE]

There is no doubt that a mustang or any other load bearing dyno will be the better choice for tuning. You CANNOT tune a car effectively on an inertia only dyno. Once the car is up to speed, there is no longer any load on the car, its just going along for a ride on the rolls. If you are only tuning for WOT, then any dyno will do, for part throttle conditions no way.

A Mustang for instance can put a constant load on the engine, I can hold your car a any given speed I choose, or I can simulate a grade. With my Mustang dyno I can even simulate a 1/4 mile pass that is accurate to within a tenth or two.
