Default PCM tune

hey i had a rean quick question. i am looking at getting a pcm tune from madz28, the e-mail tune, and i was wondering if anyone had a data logging cable to transfer it to my car. i don't really think it to be wise to try and hook my computer up down stairs and try to get it on there.

I've got the cable, but I do not have a laptop at the moment, did you need both? Where are you located again, Everett?

I have lots of laptops - come on by Monroe and I'll hook you up. If you time it right, you may even run into the GrooMaster here too. I'll be home almost all weekend.

I have a laptop but no cable........FYI the battery is only good for about 3 hours though....but I guess I could bring the "factory" 2 hour one as well........oh yeah, Lynnwood here.

What kind of port does the laptop need to use for the cable? Mine is only about 3 months old so I am "guessing" it would have it?

Newer does not equal better in the automotive tuning world

You need a serial port, you know, the old school stuff? You can get USB or PCMCIA adapters, but lots of times they are finicky. For the MadZ28 stuff, you have to load the tune by using a boot disk into DOS, so I'm pretty sure it won't recognize a USB to serial adapter, and probably not even a PCMCIA adapter. They might work for logging though.

Boot disc? Better be on a damn CD or DVD then.
So serial port like for a printer hookup? That kinda port?

Kind of like that. Your printer port is a parallel port that uses a female DB25 connector I am pretty sure, and he needs the male serial DB9.

Why are you using a mail order tune with Ellis and Tom in the area? It strikes me as slightly strange but it is obviously your option. Drive your car to one of their shops and it leaves running the best it can. That would be what I would do. Obviously Tom is a long drive for you, (he has customers from So Cal) but Ellis isnt that far from you and if I lived up there my car would go to his shop. Good luck, may the gods of good tune be with you.

With minimal mods and teenage income, madZ28 isn't that bad. For anything more than a few bolt ons though, obviously Ellis will be able to give him a better tune with less hassle.

There ya go!! I'd jump on that. I'd even sweep the shop and mow the lawn if I he'd let me.

Ergh, I really need a tune, too. It'll be a while, though. :-/ My parents claimed me as a co-dependant because I was living there for about 2-3 months @ the beginning of the year last year (before I graduated college), so no tax refund. Billz to pay, you know?
