Default Time to plan...

Ok looks like when the O2's failed a couple months ago I didn't get to them in time and the fuel might have washed the cylinder walls and the rings scored the sleeves. I'm getting gas in the oil and did a quick oil change and am gonna get the tune reset asap but so far no luck, my MPG has dropped to 16mpg even with 90% highway. So I'm thinking about getting a new short block.

I'm lookin at a 408ci Iron Block stroker, TSP seems to have a good price on them, thinkin I'm gonna go N/A w/juice but not sure which pistons to go with they offer Mahle -12cc Diamond -2cc (which is too high of a compression for a daily I'd think), -15cc and -10cc. I've been thinking of goin with 6.0L heads ported in the future or LS7 heads and intake manifold down the road. Now my concern is since I'm on a tight budget I was just gonna do the short block and associated accessories (oil pump, water pump, lifters, pushrods, cam thinkin the texas giant 248/254, .611"/.613" 114lsa) would I be ok with stock heads for now until I can really afford to get the other heads? I know it'd be smarter to do it all at once but money is hindering that at the moment.

I'm guessing other stuff I'd need would be fuel pump/injectors and definately a savings account for a Ford 9".

Thoughts? I'm pretty much nursing the ws6 until i get caught up on my bills enough to spare some cash for a beater daily.

A daily beater costs less than a forged shortblock.

Considering it'd been running in SD mode and the check engine light was constantly on because of that I had no idea until my gas mileage dropped significantly that something was wrong. By that time it was too late **** happens and stuff breaks when stuff goes wrong, it's all part of the price to play.

Not trying to be a jerk or rub anything in, just confused how we can help since a 9 inch, shortblock and all the things that you will find you need for it are gonna run you a lot of $$$$$. Not to mention getting it put together correctly and tuned.

So, what exactly are you asking? And on top of that you wanna get a beater?

My suggestion, get a reliable (and easy to fix if it needs it) beater/DD and park the TA till you can afford to fix it right.

Dang, after checking out TSP, the crankshaft is gonna cost you more then the block, that bites.

I'm just tryin to plan ahead so I know exactly what I need to do. I'm workin on getting a daily so I can park the TA until I can get it fixed but I'd just like to have an idea of if I'm heading the right direction so I can work on a budget plan.

Has Ellis checked out the car yet? Maybe he can save you a ton of $$ by figuring out what is wrong before you drop a wad of cash that you might not have to.

How about a 408 LS2 shortblock for around $2800? Then add a set of L92 heads that flow 325+ @ .600" stock for under $750/pr or getting the CNC'd L92's from TSP w/ dual springs/s.s. valves that flow 350+ @ .600" for $1500. Use the new L76 intake that out flows the FAST 90 and is under $500 complete w/ 90mm TB, fuel rails, and 39# injectors! Give me a call when you're ready...

i don't think you need the ecu. i think marks engine is ls2 based. from what i remember some of the sensors are in different spots but not sure what else is needed.

Accesories bolt up as normal, have to modify your harness, and all the little things don't cost much...

Mine is an LS1 motor cuz I didn't want to change everything over. I forget now what it cost, but it can be rather involved.

And no, stock heads won't do a 408 with a BIG cam justice. You could put $1k into them (porting & polishing, valves, etc) to make them work....

And don't take this wrong, but what you're talking about doing takes a lot of knowledge. I know a fair amount about cars and I needed help. Things like degreeing a cam, setting the valve train up properly, installing a clutch that will hold up to this much power, tuning.....you're gonna need help, so plan for that part of the budget too.

Stock L92's will do well but the ported set would be better.
