Default Stumbled across a Ferrari picture

Do you see what I see? Is that a pair of zip ties that is holding the front of the fuel rail onto the carbon fiber composite intake plenum?

And this isn't a real picture (obviously), it's a model. This means those zip ties were designed into the engine! That is all.

I believe those zip ties were rated as adding 125 hp.

Nope, that baby spun up to ~17-18k

The new V8's spin up to 19k and that is limited, they could go over 20k if the regs allowed it.

A lot of those gears are gone on the current motors. No cams anymore, the valve are operated pneumatically.

They are billet, I think they held up fine

We have a rod, a piston, and one chamber of an F1 head (I think Honda) in the VRI at school. They are pretty extreme.

When I was stationed in Europe I got the oppurtunity to see F1 those things are the SICKEST sounding motor you will ever hear. Plus they aren't wimps and continue racing even if its raining. Cart and Indy will never equal them. JMO.

Sweet! I want to take a vacation and hit an F1 race in Nurburgring or Spa Francorchamps. I can't imagine hearing 20 or so engines singing at 18,000+ rpm's.

I was fortunate to catch them the last 4 years they went to Indy. The sound is ear splitting but back in the 8, 10, and 12 cylinder days you could actually pick out the cars by the sound they made with your back turned to the track. The Lambo and Ferrari powered cars with their 12's sang a beautiful high pitched wail.

I think that the cams still actuate the valves. The pneumatic part replaces the valve spring with compressed nitrogen.

Yeah there are no valve springs on this engine either.

truly the most boring racing in the world is F1 ... follow the leader taken to the next level and the drivers has no bearing on who wins its all about the adjustment the engineers make from the laptops. NASCAR rubbin is racin.

It seems that way sometimes but if you follow it they actually drive the **** out of the cars. Some builders are better than others as far as money and development time they win more so I can understand where you are coming from but at least they turn right and drive in the rain. Ferrari's dominance has ended so it SHOULD get more interesting. They also smacked McLaren with the largest fine ever in any sporting event for having a secret Ferrari data book. 150 Million dollars in fines and the criminal investigation is ongoing. I think Renault may get back to the forefront soon. Honda and Toyota have a LOT to learn but they are doing it quickly so F1 may be wide open in the next few years. Sorry I really like F1 so this may have been a bit much.
