Cam advice
Well with 154K miles on my 96 Z28 M6 I finally broke down and took the plunge on a rebuild/buildup. She doesn't smoke at all and doesn't leak a drop of oil but she's feeling 'tired', if you know what I mean.
My question concerns the cam...not quite sure which one to go with (yup, did a search and read the threads). I'd like some 'local' knowledge to help me with this.
The car is used as a daily driver and for autocross (ESP for now...SM after the buildup). Drivability is important but I'm more concerned about performance on the autocross course.
Here's what I've got coming in the mail...USED: Lingenfelter (LPE) ported LT1 heads w/1.6rr etc), LPE ported/matched intake, LPE ported/matched 58mm TB, Corvette LT1 MAF
NEW: Pacesetter 'race' headers/ory, Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, OBD1 conversion, EGR block off plates.
Car currently has: Borla catback, March underdrive pulley, TB airfoil...oh, boy!, 3.73 GM posi, Hurst Pro 5.0, Strano springs, Koni SAs, ST 35mm fsb w/links, 1LE rsb w/links, poly bushings, Pavlock DAPHB, Strano offset UCA bushings, skip shift eliminator, Hypertech PPIII (don't laugh...came with the car...lol).
I've got someone with Tunercat to help me tune her when she's done...but will hopefully have it dyno-tuned (haven't found any LT1 tuners in Eastern WA yet).
I need power to come on fairly early...2200-2500 would be good for autocross. Top end isn't that big of a concern as I don't drag race. I would like a nice lopey idle...enough to remind me that I've got a cam in there without sacrificing TOO much daily drivability. LPE suggests their 74211 cam...211/219 .530/.560 HR112. These numbers don't mean a whole lot to me yet...I'm obviously new to the cam thing. From what I've read this cam sounds almost stock (not what I want but if it is what I need I'm willing to sacrifice some cool sounding idle for the right performance...<frown>
Any suggestions? Thanks!!

For a nice streetable cam, you can't go wrong w/ the 211/219. I think Ellis's wife's car has that cam in it unless he changed it. There are quite a few other cams that should fit the bill. CC305 and Hotcam make nearly identical power to the stock cam down low; at least that's what I've seen on my dyno runs, w/ no significant gains 'till ~4,000 RPM. I believe the LE1 cam would also work for you.
Between Ellis and Jim, I'm sure they've seen or tried nearly every "shelf" cam ever made for the LT1.

I ordered a LPE 74211...looks like it'll be a great cam for autocross. Now to get everything installed and tuned...<sigh>. The LPE heads/intake mani/58mm TB are at the machine shop getting tanked/heads decked/etc...should be out Monday!!

i just sold my z to my brother in kenn. and i had a 222/224 560/560 108 lsa and i loved it the tq comes instantly. its pretty good on the street. gets a little lerchy going through a parking lot if i just keep it in first. but you can live with it.it sounds wicked!
