The Richmond has advantages over a T-56 as far as what can be done to it, the gap is narrowing but the Richmond can be completely tailor made. I'd be willing to bet the Richmond will shift better regardless of what is done to the T-56.

I have a Richmond ROD and it's a completly different animal than the T56. It's geared much lower than the T56 - first gear is 3.27:1 and the OD is only .7

It works great with a 3.08 or 2.73, but would suck with 3.73s or 4.11s. It also shifts a little stiffer and notchier than the T56, but it feels stronger. It's also higher maintenance than the T56. The shifter needs to be serviced alot to keep it smooth.

You still have that thing laying around? What ratio is in yours for 5th and 6th gear?

Talk to the people at six speeds, inc. They rebuilt my t-56 couldn't be happier.
