Default 408 Advice please...

The new TSP 408 will be here soon, I have decided to really go in debt a bit further and do the heads now. I read that either the AFR or TFS heads are a good choice.

The pistons are -10 cc for low compression, upgraded rings-rods-crank

?? Which size heads would be best?

?? Which heads would work best with my 112 Magnacharger 2.7 pulley (2.9 is stock)36lb injectors? (was on my ls1)

?? Currently have Stock TB and MAF, should these be upgraded

?? Cam I have is a TR Blower cam..224/228 114 .566in/.572ex currently in my LS1, is there a different cam which will make a big difference, I am going for great low end torque and max rpm of 6500

Any help would be appreciated

Stan

I would've said go with L92's but that won't work with your lower manifold for the magnacharger. The pistons are set for factory heads to compute compression? Just to give an idea of what chamber size you're looking at for the compression. FI you're forcing air in so as much as flow is good what heads you need vary on what your goals are.

If you're thinking about a different cam maybe see what cam motion can do on a custom cam for your setup.

What compression were you shooting for?

I am not sure what stock was, but I would like my magnacharger to work well and not have to worry to much about knock on pump gas

Depends on how much $ you want to spend. AFRs are great heads, but you can make some pretty nice 6L heads for half the money. I think I had $1500 in mine last year.

As for a cam, something like the one Ellis & Jimmy did for me last year might be about right for you. 226/232, 575/590, 114? It had great mid range, made 790rwtq around 4500 & topped out around 6200 @ 618rwhp. Call Ellis.....

As for a TB & MAF, a stock TB isn't an issue. But the MAFs top out around 5k with FI.

I just realized something, is a M112 enough for a 408? Just thinking cuz I know the cobra guys are maxing them out easily on the 4.6L dunno about the LSx guys though.

I've got a head for you. Pm'ing you with info. I'm carrying WCCH heads now.
Edlebrock 245cc head will do nicely. They make them with 66cc and 74cc chambers.
They will accept stock rockers and pushrods and are a direct interchange for factory heads. They have 335cfm peak intake airflow and use 2.080"/1.600" valve sizes.

I would go with 6 bolt ETP's that way in the future if you ever decide to really step up you always have the option. Go with the 245's if you can find them in stock somewhere and have fun...
