Painted some wheels for my friend's wifey
I told him if Malibu Barbie had a TA with Goat rims, this is probably what her wheels would look like:
Prepped:
Backs done:
White base on the front:
Pink Panther with some flake and a couple coats of clear:

Swaeeet!! I bet she is all over those.
I am thinking of painting some rims, so you spray the back first, let dry and then spray the fronts?
How well does it hold up to mounting and unmounting of tires?

Basically sand the rough areas with 320 on a DA and then get everything down, front and back to 600.
Then I did the backs:
Cleaned everything with wax & grease remover (wipe on wipe off), then wiped them down with a tack rag. Everywhere there was bare metal exposed I sprayed on some self etching primer (rattle can). Then a couple light medium coats of the white base (sherwin williams) to get coverage, then a nice wet coat of base. And finished it off with 2 coats of clear (PPG's Deltron).
I let them sit overnight then cleaned up a little over spray for the fronts with 600 grit. Flipped them back over and masked off the backs:
I also used paper to cover the fresh paint past the tape to avoid any overspray.
Then I cleaned up the fronts:
Used wax & grease remover (again wipe on wipe off) and tacked them off. Then I sprayed the white base coat using the same technique as the back. I let them sit for a few hours to let the base set up before masking everything off.
Masking the fronts: sorry I forgot to get a pic of this step
I used 1/4" fine-line tape, yellowish 3M stuff (make sure you use a razor to cut it instead of trying to tear it) everywhere there was going to be a break between pink and white. I used some low adhesion blue 3M tape everywhere else. When applying the blue tape I overlapped half of the fine line tape to help hold it in place, otherwise with the humidity here in FL it will start to lift up in about an hour or so. For where the lugs go I would cut off a nice little piece of tape and make a little loop with it, sticky side out, and then put it in place. Towards the end of the "spokes" was the only real PITA part which I would say almost doubled the amount of time it took. Once I finished masking the wheels, each taking almost 2 hours, I cleaned them off with wax and grease remover and wiped everything down with a tack rag.
Painting the fronts:
I used PPG Pink panther for the pink base coat, applying 2 light, but not dry, coats. Then I used PPG (Deltron) clear with some silver mini-flake, applying one light coat just to get the flake on there as evenly as possible. You must mix up your clear then strain it, and then add flakes once its in the gun, the flakes are too big to strain. When doing this step I reduced the clear just a little extra because I didn't want it too be too think otherwise you get a very heavy line separating the 2 colors. I let that set up for about an hour before carefully removing all the masking tape from the fronts. I finished off the fronts with 3 coats of the same clear just no flakes this time......

I think the wheels would look great on a black Firebird, but I'm not completely in love with them on a white one. I think if the entire wheel was pink, it'd look better on a white car.
I think you did a very good job on them however, from what I can see in pictures.

Thanks for the compliments guys, of coarse I'm never 100% happy, but I think they came out pretty good.
Is she happy with them? Any issues with mounting the tires, hope nothing chipped...
We gotta redo her calipers so they are nice and shiny too
