Default bumper darker than fender and hood?

i just had my new bumper painted after an accident for my 02 bright rally red z28. and it seems that the bumper is a slight bit darker up close and in certain lights, but from like 10 feet away its not really noticeable, i think i see it in this pic i found on ls1.com, but idk ill try to post up a pic of my car sometime tomorrow, but my uncle said he would repaint my bumper when i get my ss hood and also my ss spoiler since THESPOILERCOMPANY's paint is slightly off as well so idk i guess ill have to live with it till the spring... anyway here is a pic.

Its pretty damn close. When I had my MMM Camaro bumper repainted a couple years back I thought it was slightly off too, but then realized it was just my imagination and obsession with getting it perfect. It's fine bro, I wouldn't worry about it (even though it will bug you everytime you walk around the front of your car).

with red, and heck most colors for that matter, it needs to be blended in roder to match perfectly.

At least on Firebirds, the bumper covers were typically darker from the factory. I wouldn't worry about yours. I've seen worse on factory original cars.

Alot of vehicles have bumper covers that are slightly off in color. Im a retired painter and it used to drive me crazy. If you paint the parts seperately they will look different. Look at nissan, toyota, infinity, and most foreign cars their covers all look different. Your bumper is not too far off. I wouldn't worry about it. Most people would not even notice it.

Default Plastic

I agree with others and they are correct. I have been doing this "paint matching" thing for 20 + years and here is the explanation of why it never matches perfectly on plastic bumper covers. It's static electricity and how the paint's pigments orientate themselves during the drying cycle prior to clear coating. I just repainted my hood, both bumpers, 1/4, and spoiler last year and had similar results. The 1/4 was blendeded while all the others were butt matched; and were painted at the same time. I tinted the base 8 times using sprayout cards and the plastic pieces were slightly different. 1/4 was perfect. Oh and it was torch red also. Don't sweat it because nobody else will or notice!

I have the opposite issue, bumper cover is lighter than my hood/fenders. You are not allowed to complain, my bumper cover/hood/fenders have not been repainted, this is how it came from GM:

You can see the difference in my sig pic too

except for black. on black cars the bumpers were WAY lighter than the rest of the car. i found this old pic of my car and you can clearly see the difference. i thought it was due to age but then i talked to a guy who had a low mile 97 formula vert that he owned since new and he said his was the same way when brand new. my bumpers have been repainted and match now.

the rear was even worse. it's kind of hard to tell but here's a pic from the day i bought the car back in 2004. you can kind of see how the rear is lighter than the rest of the car.

all cars even from factory there bumpers are off color by a little metal and plastics take paint differently for a near perfect match you must blend to the fenders and hood. but with reds it is very hard to match 100% yours doesn't look bad at all but mjmaro your is off by alot did you but the car new? if not i would look very hard at the bumper and see if there is any nibs or fish eyes cause it looks like it was repainted

I bought the car used, I've had the bumper cover off before and it is original GM paint, no paint work has been done to it what-so-ever. Depressing isn't it? lol
