Default Rear body panel *PICS*

How hard is this going to be to replace. Its gonna go from quarter to quarter. Im pretty mechanically inclined but have never done body work. Any tips on this little project? This is how the bumper and taillights currently sit. Thanks.

what exactly are you trying to do? I see the lip the bumper cover sits on it bent up, but thats it. thats a very easy fix, grab a small hammer and bend it back. If the whole panel is bent out or in some just put your shoulder in it and give it a few nudges, that area moves easy

There is a gap that i can fit my index finger in between the hatch and taillights from quarter to quarter. When they fixed my dirver side quarter they didnt fix that rear panel and they welded the new quarter where it sat. I kept taking it back but they said it was good enough, and even the dealer said that. Just fixing the bumper mount wont do it. I have to replace the whole panel to get it right.

Im just tired of the way it sits and i picked up the panel cheap from a salvage yard. I think the hardest part of this deal is getting all the damn seam sealer off. Any ideas on that as well??

yes there is but not supposed to be enough to shove my finger in it. I measured out the panels and it looks like the one on my car is shifted bout 3/8 of an inch to the right and out.

Use a good Stiff wire wheel to get the seam sealer off. The panel is really easy to put in.You well need alot of self taping screws and some good drill bits.Test fit everything before you weld it up.Just hope the 1/4 is where it should be.If it is the new should go where the old one lined up or really close.

self tapping screws and drill bits? wtf?! go buy a spot weld cutter and a couple small clamps, dont know why you would ever drill self tapping screws in there?

A spot weld cutter is not needed drill bits are much cheaper. Why go buy expensive tools to use them one time .With self tapping screws you can test fit parts before you weld clamps will be in the way. He wants it to fit screw it in place and check alingment.Need dont drill all the way through the panel.

I would straighten the panel thats in place in lieu of replacing it.
Youre opening up a big can of worms.
If your insurance company paid for the fix and youre not happy file a complaint and take to another shop, then let insurance handle it.

Thats just it. I did complain about it and took it to the dealer and even they didnt want to do anything about it. This happened five years ago by the way. I just want to get it done and done right. I will be checking measurements many times before i start to spot weld this. Im going to take my time and not rush anything. The quarter panel seems to be sitting on the right spot, its just that panel that is all jacked up.

Im still not convinced you need to replace the panel.
take X measurements and straight measurements and see where its off.
Use keypoints on body not the 1/4s to measure off.
A good body man can measure and pull and be done in a couple of hours.
But if they put it on the frame machine setup is usually 2 hrs minimum

The frame is not the problem. That wasnt bad. When i put the passenger side tail light in it rocks back and forth a good inch almost on the middle mounting pedestals. That tells me that the panel is really jacked up. When i put the lights in the "replacement panel" i have there is no issue with the light fitment. They rest on there perfect.

More progress. You can see some of the hidden damage in the trunk.
