I've always heard that the tap needs to be removed while the dip is still wet so pretty much right away

I've seen a pic of a guy taking a deck of old cards and sticking them in between the wheel and tire so they stand up and create a little wall between them. Pretty genius imo since no one else has mentioned it or posted pics of it. Thats what I'm planning to do when I do mine this week. Much easier than tape. When you finish just take the cards out and thats it.

Was messing around with Plasti-Dip for the first time. Going to use it to do the CETA mod still. Found out that masking off the hood to do blackbird style stripes isnt easy, at least for someone like me with no previous experience. No hard line to follow, and the hood scoops have a slight curve to them. Also found out the hard way that the blue masking tape for painting that I had was junk and didnt hold the edge at all, so I had some bleeding along the edge when you looked close. Just did a solid stripe, didnt try to do any pin stripe along the edges.
Looks better further away, thats for sure. Just happy that once it dried I could easily peel off the stripe since I was unhappy with it. Will have to get better tape and try again another day. Also plan on doing my wheels in black after I change the tires to complete my white n black accent look.

Started like this:
Ended like this:
The 2nd and 3rd picture are the day after, there were lots of water spots that you can kind of see

Thinking about doing gunmetal on my prostar knock-offs and still have a couple questions.
1. Can you mount/dismount tires while the wheels are "dipped"? My wheels currently don't have tires on them so do I need to wait until I get tires?
2. When you "dip" the wheels off the car and spray in the lug holes, does the dip come off when torquing down the lug nuts?
2.1. If it does come off while torquing, is it better to dip the wheels while mounted to the car, thus using the nuts to mask off the seat? And dismount the wheels while last cote is wet so that taking off lug nuts does not pull dip with it?

1. I had plastidipped stock 16s while tires were on them. They were fine to mount up but when it came time to dismount tires and put new ones on...the mounting machine just scrapes it right off.
2.being stock I didnt have the option since I have the plastic covers. My friend did 5 spokes on his 2010 SS and didnt have a problem
3. I would dismount the tires unless you plan on doing some tricky and time consuming taping off for the brake, caliper/rotor and tire. I took mine off and did them.. Looked good for about a year.

OK, let me start by saying YES I know my paint lines are crap, they where done with the wrong type of tape to get that edge and where done outside at 2 in the morning with nothing more then a porch light (60 watt bulb) and one of those crappy LED flashlights that you wear on your head.
This was done to see what it could look like, part of me likes it part of me doesn't but I thought I'd share and see what others think. It was something I haven't seen done and wanted to see it. If it is kept it will be redone.

I was wondering this for a while and just found this thread, if your sail panel is bubbling will plastidip cover it and not bubble itself? Also if you peel it off will it take the paint that is bubbling with it?

I can't remember who I saw post it, I think it was the user ZexGX with the pewter firebird with a raptor hood and swapped ls1 drivetrain. He plasti dipped his roof for the same reason and he said he ended up removing it because it was speeding up the bubbling issue. Which I would assume meant it was also visible on the dip itself.
