A few WS6 Hood / Air Box Questions
I'm still looking for an OEM WS6 hood.
Searching the nation, someone may have one with no damge for $500! I'm confirming that on Monday.
I assume that would be a good price?
What's the approximate weight of an OEM WS6 hood?
Does it use the same hinges and hood latch as the flat hood?
What's a good price for the ram air air intake box, and what parts do you need besides the air box to make it all like a factory ram air car?
Lastly, do I want the OEM air box, or is there an aftermarket one that might be better?
Please let me know if you guys know the answers to some of this!
Thank You,
Lee

OEM is not cheap.....500$ would be a steal....to many claiming OEM when its a fiberglass replica.....no idea on weight.........yes uses same hinges....hawks 3rd gen has air boxes....OEM and repros....price varies...you can use many after market air systems.....volant...KN....your choice
if I was goin with a aftermarket RA hood.....I would go with the carbon fiber one.....seems to be the best replica from what I see.....hawks has it on their site

Thanks!
This is definitely an OEM hood, I see the honeycomb inserts are missing in the picture, are those available? Anyone know a part number?

If that's a factory maple red metallic ta, I'm not sure if they made a factory ws6 ta in that color.

If you look at the car in person, I would check the sticker on the door jamb for the ws6 option.

GM literature states that 44U (Maple Red Metallic) was not available with the WS6 package, as mentioned above. So it might be an OEM hood, but only if it was added after the fact (i.e. it's not OEM to that particular car). But it's been fairly common for folks to add OEM WS6 hoods as a modification over the years, and it does appear to be an OEM hood based on what little detail I can see in the picture above.
$500 is extremely cheap for an OEM version without damage. Great deal, assuming it's represented properly.

you can get honeycomb inserts from hawks....i think they are still available from GM....the dead give away from a fiber hood and OEM is the lines around the grill.....OEM lines are separate and distinct ( read...not molded in ) and under the hood it looks as if the whole snorkel piece can be removed by drilling out the rivets....which I think it can be removed but that piece has never been available separately
if its in texas....be glad to pick it up for you

Did not hear from the yard today, I sent another email tonight. Will ask this of them about the color.
Maybe it was repainted? They posted pictures 360 degrees of the car, not crashed, and the VIN says it's a Trans Am, will try to find out if it's a WS6 or not!

More Pics
RPM WS6 - I Googled for images for a 2000 WS6 Burgundy Trans-Am -- Hmmmm, didn't find any images of one other than the one I posted above.
You seem to have a very good point there.
Here's a few more pics, I especially find the coffee cup interesting. I wonder if that was from the previous owner, or a yard customer? lol

Just ask for a picture of the SPID (Service Parts Identification) sticker on the driver's door jamb, it contains all the RPOs and would show "WS6" if the car originally was one (but I don't see how, unless it was repainted - which is hard to believe as the engine bay is also clearly 44U).
Alternatively, you could go to any GM dealer parts department and have them run a VIS report on that VIN number. This would also show all the original RPOs. But, again, the GM literature is pretty clear that RPO 44U (Maple Red Metallic) is not available with WS6 package for model year 2000. One of those two RPOs has got to be missing from this car's SPID.

It is in Texas. Is there any way to tell definitively if it's an OEM hood? I'm looking at the driver's side nostril and it sure looks OEM.
If they respond to me, was going to ask to see a pic of where the rectangular opening should be inside the hood with that riveted in part you were talking about.
Thank you for the interest!

DOH! Lost the hood!
UPDATE:
Maybe I should have moved faster, someone bought the hood above on Wednesday. I could have called and bought it Monday or Tuesday...
It wasn't originally on that car, and I would have been buying it sight unseen.
And, I would have had to color change it to black on both sides...
