Got approved last week then got an email today. From the dealership.

"WES, WE JUST GOT WORD FROM GM THAT THE TOP WE ORDERED FOR YOUR CAMARO IS DISCONTINUED AND THEY WILL NOT PRODUCE ANYMORE. WE ALSO DID A NATIONWIDE SEARCH AT OTHER DEALERS, NO LUCK. SORRY WE CAN NOT DO THE REPAIR."

Wow. That is disappointing news. Looks like the only options now will be used tops or custom fiberglass creations. I don't think used tops will be an option for the hardtop F-bodies, as I don't see any way to remove the full top without destroying it.

Wonder if some aftermarket body panel/hood manufacturers will pick up this item? I'd like to see one made out of metal/aluminum, no more worries about glue, ever.

I'm sorry if this has already been asked but;
Why can't these just be refinished? Do they continue to gas?

Yes, if you just sand and re-paint, the issue will come back. So far, nobody has been able to make the issue disappear long term without replacing the panel.

During the summer months mine bubbles and oozes like crazy. Now that the temps have cooled down significantly, it stays the same and doesn't get worse. Still seems to me that someone will figure this one out. Just like in the computer business and in disease control, for every virus there is an anti-virus fix. That friggin' toxic glue has to have an "anti-virus" out there somewhere waiting for someone to find it.

I think the only "fix" will continue to be complete panel replacement, apparently this will require a known good used panel for the here and now. Seems that this situation really sucks for the hardtop guys, as I don't see any simple way to remove a hardtop panel in one piece from a donor car. Guess another option would be something custom made from a good fiberglass fabricator.

Long term, I think the fix will be an aftermarket panel made from fiberglass/composite/metal alloy.

How did you cut through the glue just forward of the hatch glass? I can't visualize how this would be possibile with the wire method on a hardtop. Obviously you did it, but I'm not sharp enough to figure it out!

I posted this in the thread pertaining to GM no longer making sail panels, I did some research and contacted the only place that I found that has a sail panel, Classic Industries, their response:

Part G4545 is an order-by-demand part. We do not keep this part in house. Once paid for, an order will be placed with our vendor to obtain this part. It normally takes 2-4 weeks for arrival to our warehouse. This part is priced at $1030.99 and requires truck freight for delivery. To receive a quote for a shipping cost, please call (800) 854-1280.
So - of course I was not happy with that price, so I contacted 6LE about it, I will not disclose the actual quote from e-mail, but it would be about half of what Classic Industries wants, BUT, they would need pre orders to actually make a production run at the sail panel, which brings me to this:

People, if you want 6LE to make sail panels, please e-mail them and let them know.

Ok, I THINK I can make them for $400 + shipping BUT I would need TEN PRE-PAID ORDERS to do it just to cover the mold costs (I would break even at that point).

I can get serious about it this weekend if there is enough interest. Shipping is probably $100 through Fed Ex.

Your mom's on Tech? A LOT of people have been asking about carbon fiber panels but how about a cheaper version where only the outside most layer is CF and the rest glass? When I get this CBP job I'll be down for one. Time is my problem right now. Oh and GOD BLESS 6LE FOR MAKING THESE!!!

See - that's where I was at, but, then when I heard GM isn't making them anymore (or ever again) and Classic Industries has the part, but for 1100 bucks, I contacted 6LE about it, and they may only do a small production of panels now and possible never again, I figure, get it now from 6LE (if they produce it) rather than possibly never getting a new panel and dealing with the bubbles getting worse over time and not being able to do a thing to it.

I'm still in, 6LE.
