I have a full roof panel I just cut off a 94 parts car.
I just replaced my 02 T top one that dealer had attempted to fix by just repainting(FAIL).

Something either changed with the process or the materials used in April or May of '98. The March '98 and earlier cars have never developed this issue.

Been awhile since I been in this thread, my 01 Z28 is looking abit crappy... Whats the sail made out of plastic or metal? I was thinking of just sanding it down and respraying it when I do my bumpers... Anyone have any experience?

You need to replace the panel or it will just start bubbling all over again.

What causes this? I would think sanding it down and repriming and sealing would fix it ?

You won't see bubbles on yours. A '93 is not effected.

Interesting. My 98 was built in June but had no issue. Not that I'm complaining! Just, interesting.

That is very interesting! I've come across several other 06/98 cars that did have the issue. Sounds like you're safe though, it would be very unlikely for this to suddenly start after 12 years of full-time outdoor storage. We live in similar climates, and my '02 was doing this at 5 years old.

Seems like the very end of the '98 model year was the transition, as I've seen plenty of 05/98 and later builds that do have the issue. I've just never seen any earlier '98s that have the bubbles.

Mine started a few years ago. My car is in storage and when I checked on it a couple weeks ago the glue stuff had oozed out of the bubbles. this is the first time I've seen this happen. I think its crappy of GM to not be making the part KNOWING there is such a large problem. I know its not a safety problem but hey should have issued a recall instead of a service bulletin

Just received notice from my dealer that the roof panel has been delayed until November now. This sucks. They've had my car since the end of June!! What the hell???

Does anybody have a new roof panel that they are willing to sell??

Try contacting fantasy island motors ... the same place where they fix the roof panel problem for free ... I bet they have some...Try your local salvage yard and go and peal one off a pre 98 model...probably get one for 50-75 bucks.

There never was a recall...there was a service bulletin issued by GM on the problem. If you go to the first page of this thread and go to the second post you can click on a link that will take you to the bulletin and if you wish to you can print a copy of it.
