I have some of the bubbles, but they haven't become a complete eyesore - YET! They are getting there though...
If you have bubbles in your roof panel your not going to get them to go away even if you do what you just described..the chemical reaction has ruined the panel ... you will need another panel or learn to live with the bubbles.

Same as windshield adhesive... only a whole lot thicker.

slp200mph is correct.. the panel is ruined once the chemical within the adhesive has permeated the fiberglass... hence finding a used part prior to '99 or buy new.

I don't think there is any way around this problem as far as preventing this. I've noticed it but thought maybe shitty weld lines or something. I'm going to go in to my local dealership and ask if I could get it fixed, doesn't hurt to ask. my car just passed 24,000 miles on it, it's a 2002 and it's been garaged and away from the weather...I'll reply on either result good or bad.

So I just got back from the dealership, gave them my vin# and she said there was no record of any "outstanding campaigns" as in no recalls or any other extra issues. My car has 24.7K miles on it, it's garage kept and it has this problem.

funny thing is she said not to believe everything on the internet, I said no I believe it. We're talking 17,000 owners who've had this problem.

Maybe I'll take it somewhere else and try to score the paint warranty on it, cars with higher mileage...Good luck

'98's produced after June have the same prob...

...needs to be '97 or older...i have a '98 and stripped out a totaled '94 Z a few years ago before learning of this problem......didn't remove/keep the panel before taking the shell to the scrap yard

owned another 94Z for years (bought the above for spare parts)...and the panel NEVER had a problem...looked great the day i sold it...

Anyone buy the roof from GMpartsdirect.com? $441 plus $93 shipping. I have to have it done to both my TA and SS!

Default Zaino helps!!

Hey guys!

I just wanted to share my experience on that sail panel issue... I live in Switzerland and we own in our family a red 2002 SS/LE and a black 2002 SS, both w/t-tops. Both cars show up this kind of bubbles. We absolutely have no chance to get this issue fixed by GM over here. So I had to find another solution... at least something beiing able to live with the bubbles.

This spring I did quite a few coats of Zaino Polish to my car... more as usual, while my dad's car was not getting this Zaino treatment. Then we noticed a big difference on the bubbles. While the bubbles on my car almost disappeard, the situation on my dad's car got really bad. So we decided to put some Zaino on Dad's car too. Now imagine what happened... by the time they're almost gone!!

So the glue definately starts to react under the sail panel at high UV Rays. By putting several coats of Zaino, I believe I have built up a thick layer of sun blocker!

I know... It sounds stupid and almost unbelievable, but it works for us!

Give it at least a try!
Rob

Makes sense to me. I had my car completely repainted, and the bubbles re-appeared ONLY after the vehicle had been left in the sun all day.

yeah i've never seen an LT1 car with this problem. mine had some white spots starting to show here and there but it was the clear coat i think. i had it repainted last year with no issues.

LOL my skin is peeling from sunburn right now (kind of like a blister) and if i had put sun screen on it might not have gotten burned, lol. maybe the cars are the same way, they don't like being out in the sun without sunscreen.

I had this problem back in 2005 and had the roof replaced under the tsb. My car is a 99 and had 94k miles on it. Dealership charged me $300 and they covered the remaining. My car was then garaged for more then 3 years. Fast forward to now and my car has 113k miles on it. Bubbles have come back even with whatever 'new'/ correct adhesive they used. Sadly, the car is in a parking garage during the day or garage at night and this has still happened. Absolute BS!

You are the first that I have heard of that had that problem ... sounds like some dumbazz used the wrong adhesive when putting on the new panel.

Willing to bet they "fixed" the old one . . . not replaced it . . .
