If you have a dealer that knows you and you do a lot of business with, you may be able to get them to do it.

All the dealers I dealt with were worthless.

*Rant* Drove my car to work today, first really nice day we've had this year. When I walked out to my car after work... Bubbling sail panel paint.

Car is '98 TA with 77k.

I was hoping I wasn't going to have this problem after all these years... I wonder, why now?

10253596 Panel (Hard Top)
10254708 Panel (T-Top)
10240164 Applique Quarter Panel Upper Right
10240165 Applique Quarter Panel Upper Left

Not sure what the applique's are but they are shown on the service bulletin and also on the work order for my top.

Hope that helps.

If its the piece the mirrors are mounted to, why does it say quarter panel upper?

Does anyone have someone in corporate I can contact who was actually helpful? You can shoot me a pm please if rather not post which I can understand.

I just dealt with Herman A. and he was of absolute no use. He just kept blabbing that this is not rust through, and besides it's past the rust through warranty, and that I'm beyond the 3yr/36kmi warranty. He didn't care about the TSB and claimed that a TSB only tells the dealer how to fix something, not that the item being fixed is a defect.

Any ideas on how to go higher than the district specialist?

There is just no way for me to understand how some people beyond their warranty, beyond the rust through, and beyond 100kmi are getting theirs replaced for free. If you replace for one, you should have to replace for all.

just get the roof repainted, it shouldn't happen again. the glue is completely cured, and is not outgassing fumes anymore. thats what caused the problem in the first place. thats what im doing, and not worried at all.

total bs there. that glue will continue to eat. new paint or not. You must remove the panel and the old glue. My 2000 TA is 9 years old and gets new holes that show up every year, its gut wrenching i know,,i hate even seeing this thread. I have called numerous times (i think to Scott S, never an answered phone) so its one of those things that we have to come to terms with. It sux, i know, but painting is only going to cover it up for a short time. The glue will continue to do what its doing.

Smoke,

People are getting theirs repaired because dealers will do it out of loyalty to frequent customers. There does seem to be some dealers that are in good with the GM area service rep's and repair whatever camaro comes in with the problem, but these places seem to be hit or miss.

I had to go through the BBB, and it was a real hassle. The link to my journey is below.

Everyone that has tried that here has had the problem come back. Your glue is fully cured? I guess you got the special kind. You either don't know what the hell you are talking about or you have a special case.

+1

Mine was repainted 2 years ago...now looks worse than it did then...I just looked it up on gmpartsdirect....$441 plus approx. $92 dollars shipping. I hate to have to spend that kind of money on something that I already have on my car plus paint....but it will continue to look like *** until it's fixed.

I heard of only one guy who was successful in removing his in one piece and fixing it and repainted....anyone else?

The New roof panels show up on ebay from time to time. Usually about half the price of going thru GMPD.

If you buy the sail panel from gmparts direct does it come painted black or does it have to be painted? Do you have to try to remove the old glue from the car when you remove the old sail panel and will the new glue just do the same thing?

the glue used by gm for late 99s and up is the issue. if you redo it with the correct adhesive, no more problem.
