corvettes actually have the same issue with the targa, the panel surrounding the rear hatch and trunk lid

Now that's what I call a safety issue - imagine driving behind the car when the roof comes off and it coming back into your windshield

I am surprised you didn't say it is a paint issue

I agree that this is getting ridiculous. Mine has them, when the time comes I have several possible solutions, one of them is having it replicated in fiberglass. If I go this route i will try to document it as good as I can.

GM was a big part in my family. After this issue, I will never buy a GM labeled product ever again. Back in 1997, Dateline NBC did a report on the '80 and '90 paint defects. Maybe they would like to do another one on this. Because I dont think all f-body owners are aware of this problem and I didnt know until i did my research a month ago and my paint didnt start bubbling until Feb of this year. GM did tell me one thing that can be beneficial to all of us if everyone agrees to it. They said the only way a recall could happen is if there was enough people to submit complaints to Auto Safety. Auto Safety would do an investigation on the issue and force GM to do a recall if the problem is an actual big issue. Anyone want to do this with me? The website is autosafety.org I am also submitting a claim to BBB and I am also going to see if I include other owners into the claim when they contact me. If anyone wants to join me on a BBB claim just send me a private message on here.

Really? Safety issue? Have you felt threatened by the small roof bubbles?

I deleted your last post like this one, and I'm removing this one as well.

The post you've been quoting was directed at someone else in response to an accusation of not caring about the condition of one's car.

There is no need to further instigate the situation. Just let it die.

Thanks. -RPM WS6

seriously, did i state that the bubbling is a safety issue anywhere? autosafety takes claim for other things not just ones for safety. look at their website if you dont believe me

if anyone wants to join me in a joint claim private message me on here. if you don't want to or you think it's too late for it. the reason I am doing this because I just found out that others had it too recently and mine started bubbling this year. you entitled to your own opninion but I don't want to argue with you over it. if you have bubbling currently, got denied by gm, or had it fixed with your own money this is your opportunity to hold gm responsible. private message me on here.

Dude, give it a rest. They (GM) stopped building these cars 8, almost 9 years ago. There was a TSB on the issue, which has since expired. I say you snooze, you lose.

It sucks, yes, but it's an old issue that they DID address when releasing the TSB. I'm not happy either, but there are plenty of things that aren't perfect about our f-bodies. Power window motors, weak rear-ends, headlight door motors (Firebird/Trans Am), etc. Wasting time on a "claim" is silly. But go ahead! The courts are filled with millions of other frivolous lawsuits. It's the American way!

Guys, if mangus2k1ws6 wants to file a claim, please let him do so in peace. If others choose to join him, so be it.

I agree 100% that it's a wasted effort, but let's not drag this thread down any further over this difference in opinion. Just let it go please. Thanks.

I just noticed my bubbles on the sail panel, its been garaged since new, 73k miles.

At this stage it's pretty minor, but definitely annoying, I can't really feel the bubbles by finger or hand yet but you can see them at a certain angle.

So the correct way is to buy the panel new? which i think is $600 off gmpartsdirect, which i think is genuine? I'm going to hold off a bit, hopefully gm will make more and offer them a bit cheaper.

Default Another 6LE request thread... Roof Panel

Hey everyone. I have been doing some research, and trying to find a roof/sail panel for my car (it has the paint bubbles). According to GM Parts Direct, the panels (for $650) are on national back order, and will not be made anytime soon.

So the point of this thread... Who would be interested in a roof/sail panel be made for our cars? I really think this would be a great product for Mark (6LE) to market for us, and probably get us a decent price on them as well (hopefully less than $500).

I can personally pay for mine right now, and I'm sure some other may be able to as well. Hopefully Mark will chime in, and hopefully we can get this going.

Hey Frank! We tried but after our cost and shipping GM's price is better. There is another company possibly doing this though, can't remember name off top of my head but if you do a search they do Carbon Fiber door panels as well and out a sponsor on here...

I def see a market for these. As these cars grow older the problem will only worsen. Ive seen it bad on garage queens as well as DD's. GM just really screwed that **** up.

I'm still not sure of the reason for the glue change between 98 and 99. My 98, for all its flaws, had no bubbles in the roof at 161k miles and parked outdoors all the time.
