Post number 1518, bulletin 2.

There is no way your original panel can be salvaged. Once the glue is put on, it's ruined. People have tried what you've said and the bubbles have come back. Only a new one or a replacement from a LT1 donor will fix your woes permanently.

Default roof panel

I just bought my 2001 Camaro SS , and it has 54,000 miles on it.I had those bubles, so i pulled my windsheild out and stiped the roof and used slick sand [ever coat] primer on it . Im waitn 48 hours for it to dry. Then im goin to block it down and prime it again.400 wet block it seal it and paint it white with single stage PPG.

You are pissing away your time and your $$$ ... been there done that ... it does not work ... the bubbles will be back...a new panel or a used one off of a 93-97 F body is the only permanent fix ...

A March or earlier '98 panel is just as good.

Alright ladies and gentlemen, I promised we would do this and we are... GM screwed us with bubbling sail panels that you have to COMPLETELY replace the roof to fix and then they stopped selling the roof.

SO, we stepped up and are making 1993-2002 F-Body T-Top sail panels in FIBERGLASS...

http://6litereaterdesigns.com/store/...roducts_id=241

AND ALSO CARBON FIBER (no pics of the carbon fiber version for at least two months)...

http://6litereaterdesigns.com/store/...roducts_id=243

We are offering them at an HONEST PRICE as well. We could be jerks and try to make a killing but all I am doing is matching the price GM Parts Direct ($460 for fiberglass) used to sell them for. That gives me about a 10% profit which is fine as I am a small company with no overhead.

GM/Classic Industries used to charge $1100+ for this piece in fiberglass and we're offering a CARBON FIBER VERSION (with a UV clear coat warrantied for ONE YEAR so you don't even have to paint it!) for only $660!!!

I pray you guys/gals appreciate this and step up and order...

Once these are in full production I'll be tacking on $100 as I will NOT be stocking them (so I won't be ordering in groups of 10) and they will COST ME $100 more just because of shipping (getting 10 shipped to our warehouse costs the same as one shipped). Long story short, order now and save $100.

So please, go place an order already !

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Gonna order one in a month or two...

Has anyone tried sanding it down and vinylwraping it?
I`m thinking of trying it, could be worth a try before buying a new one for 400$ and tax+shipping to me in sweden.

Yes it has been tried, no it doesn't work. The bubbles show back up through the vinyl.

I haven't found it explicitly stated in this thread, so, do all 99-02 cars eventually get this problem?

Yes, eventually every single one will be affected by this. If yours hasn't started yet then count yourself lucky.

No evidence of this.

The glue is the same, the bubbles will eventually show. There is plenty of evidence, hence this thread with 80 pages and a run time of over 5 years.

This isn't evidence. Still lots of cars uneffected. Mine was bubbling after 3 years. I win.

The chemical composition of the glue is exactly the same through the mid 98 - 02 run. It will happen to all eventually. What makes it come through faster? I'm not sure. UV exposure? Chemicals in waxes that mess with chemicals in the glue / paint? We may never know. I have seen cars that haven't bubbled yet, but the paint is starting to "ripple" where the glue is. I have yet to see a 99-02 F-Body here in Texas that doesn't have some evidence of this problem. It may not be full blown bubbles yet, but the evidence is still there.
