I just finished painting my CETA satin black on my '96 T/A. I can't wait to go back outside and take off all the tape/paper. As of right now it looks nice. Can't wait till I get my '98+ honeycomb tail lights.

i did mine in semi-flat and it looks amazing. I took the bumper off, but some how still got a bit of paint on the bumper. But overall I would give it a 9.5 out of 10. I did a whole bunch of wet sanding to make it perfect.

You don't have to take your rear bumper off man.

this is a good write up, i may try doing this to my TA before I go back to school. I had a shop do it on my last one for $75, but this seems like it wont be too hard to do myself, might as well give it a try.

I used straight gloss black automotive paint (had a shop do it as a side job).

Like everything, it depends on what you want for your car. Most everybody uses straight black (no metallics, pearls or other things) and they paint it either gloss black or flat black.

No problem. Flat and metallic have no relation. Metallic is the "color" of the paint...if it has pearl or metallic it shimmers (much like a kandy paint) vs. just a plain color

Flat or Gloss reffer to the clear coat or SHINE of the finish. It's much like flat would be like "brushed aluminum" and gloss would be like "highly polished" or "chrome". You can have the same EXACT color and make it either a flat or gloss finish.

Hope that makes sense and helps.

paint semi-gloss or flat black.

Semi gloss is like the first car with no clear coat. With a little shine or reflection. Flat black has no shine and no reflection.

Why is it that every novice wants to put primer on everything before they paint something. There is no need. The only time you primer is if you had to sand out a gouge or do some repairs. All you need to do is mask off the area (Tape it off) and scuff it good with scotch brite and start painting. But make sure you use a wax and greese remover before you start painting.

Sorry for the rant.

With PPG on plastic, I mix with 1/3 hardener, no flex additive. And I'd prime it so that it sticks and doesn't flake off. Not a lot of paint opinions here, weigh in. I only claim to be somewhat capable.

Great write up...I followed it and had the bumper drying and it fell over and scuffed it up like a mother. Had to start all over and do it again. If you're contemplating on taking the bumper off or not...Do it. My mishap was me being stupid and not supporting it. It's easy to take off and put back on, just takes a little time, but if you're a perfectionist like me, I wanted it to be black everywhere. Even where you can't see.
