Default Primer for caliper paint?

Just wondering, is there a solution I can soak my calipers in to completely rid them of all the dirt and grime stuck on them, instead of cleaning them by hand? Also, is there a primer I can apply to them before using caliper paint so the paint sticks even better? Just wondering what I can do myself to get the most durable paint application at home. Thanks!

I got the duplicolor caliper kit, I just cleaned them real good and hand-painted them. They came out great. I didn't have to tape off sections of my car, like I would if I sparayed them.

the brush that comes with the duplicolor kit is a joke. the bristles are very hard and break off, making it difficult for a smooth finish, other than that the kit is awesome. just wanted another brush. i plan on spray painting this time around for a nice even finish.

the calipers are originally, naturally textured, so you wouldn't see any brush marks anyway.

I've sanded my calipers smooth so they would look better when I painted them.

there is a bolt behind the caliper that if you take off will allow the caliper to come off a bit and hang loose to the side. then you're able to either paint it by hand, covering more area since it's exposed, or you have room to trash bag everything off and spray paint it. you really don't need to take them off, unless you're **** about it like me.

i just used a simple brillo pad with some heavy duty cleaning solvent (marine cleaner). it left the surface nice and rough and the paint stuck very well. i didn't use a primer, although some ppl do.

No primer is needed .. I just use Emergency Red that you buy at the Home Depot..I used brake clean on them and then washed them with soap and water..left the calipers connected to the brake lines and put plastic bags over the rotors and spray painted them ... I redo them every spring and they always look good..there is a good color to match the factory caliper brackets and center of the rotors..it is called stainless steel also available at home depot..painting your brakes is no big deal...some of the stories I have seem on here and how much unnessary work that people do is beyond me..all 4 brakes take at the most a couple of hours and look good for a year or more I squirt them with windex and wipe them off with a paper towel when I wash the car to keep them looking good ..
