Default Paint gurus come in!! please help

I had my hood repainted black after the cheap factory coat chipped off to the primer about the size of a softball. So its a black car, had it repainted and I had a guy repaint it for me who did an awesome job but I had to pick up the car early (its a daily driver whenever I am not at college) and it has a haze on it only when in direct sunlight, he said that he might need to wet sand it again to get it right but this is 9 months later (i know, i know, i am an idiot) and I never was able to get the car back to him... is there a way that I can fix this myself? I have a bunch of wet sanding materials on hand that are super fine (like 1500 grain) feels like cotton almost...??? any help???

eww, I've seen this happen before, after a car is painted and you get that early morning dew on the hood and roof... if the paint was still fresh when it got that haze its never going away, I'm not sure if its in the color or what but you can try to watersand a buff a spot, may or may not work.... paint needs to have proper cure time otherwise stuff like that happens.... you should see what happens if rain hits a fresh paint job.... outch....

its called die-back. its when solvents trying to release get trapped underneath the clear coat and cant escape. a good wet sanding with 1500-2000 and buff will smooth it right out and bring the shine back.

it probably just needs rebuffed take it to a good detail shop but dont wet sand it agian if all the orange peels already been sanded away you could easily go to far 3m also makes a blue compound and buffing pad that works very well on black

Wet sand it with 2500 you will have a hard time cutting through the clear with 2500. stay away from all the panel edges. sand 1 panel at a time lightly at first . you can buff out 2500 with a terry cloth and rubbing compound . I strongly suggest doing it by hand. Because if you dont now what you are doing and take a buffer to it you will most likely burn through . This is the way I do my paint jobs on motercycles . Just dont rush it and you should be fine. If you have any more questions just ask.

So, Why cant the Painter take care of you? Its his job and he knew about it from the start. I would take it back to him, black or dark colors isnt a good one to try yourself. Experienced detailers have trouble with black.

yeah it could be cause the paint didnt cure all the way and solvent got stuck but its hard to tell with out seeing it for areselves.... but it also just might not be buffed all the way because the clear coat was sanded with such a fine grit it wont really look like scratches but more of a dulling of the clear and buffing might be the cure for that but as the clear gets older and older the harder it is to buff out cause its becomes so hard! good luck and i think you should bring it back to the painter and tell him to fix it!
