Default Painting Intake, did I get the right paint?

I'm using this FAQ: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....61&postcount=9

I have my duplicolor gray high build primer and I need to find adhesion promotor.

Base Coat: I have duplicolor Truck, Van, & SUV paint in ultra silver. It says it is an Acrylic Lacquer.

Main Color: I have a duplicolor anodized metalcast paint.

Question: I have two clears, which is the right one?

1. Duplicolor Truck, Van, & SUV Clear Top Coat. It is an Acrylic Lacquer.
2. Duplicolor Acrylic Enamel (in clear). It says it is designed to use over Acrylic Enamel colors.

I have no idea about all of these acrylics and lacquers and enamels etc...

Personally, I would use a self-etching primer, since it will bond to the metal better than adhesion promoter will. Sand the self etching primer(1st coat), and apply a 2nd coat, if you sand through anywhere. Lightly scuff it up after the 2nd coat(scotchbrite scuff pad will help in the nooks and small areas you can't get sandpaper in), and then adhesion promote it. Then, you can spray your color and clear if you chose to clear it. This should get some nice results.

Just my findings, after all the years of paint work I have done.

Best of luck!

I forgot to mention I'm painting an LS6 intake, which is plastic.

Ahhh...... That changes everything. I assumed a metal intake, not an LS6. My bad...

Sorry, man.

Haha, LS6 intake is a composite polymer. It is basically plastic for all intensive purposes.

LS6 intake is a composite material that's bascially nylon. Use an adhesion promoter, not a self etching primer.

Pretty sure ls6 manifolds are made of a composite. I would use a good adhesion promoter. Search Bulldog or something like that. Parbreak recommended it to me when I did some painting on plastic and it worked really well.

Make sure to post pictures when done.

Can you tell me which one of those two clear coats I should use?

Use the Top Coat Acrylic Lacquer and just use the Base Coat paint you have listed as your primary paint. Check out my write up, pictures included. I have the 4 cans of Duplicolor products I used for mine. The actual paint is all purpose paint and the clear coat is just "Acrylic lacquer Clear". The silver color I used says in yellow writing on it "Ideal for Trim Accessories".

Nice write up, but the main color I am using is the whole reason I am painting my intake.

It's the same color as my calipers, silver base coat with anodized blue over that.

I thought the metalcast blue should be used with the metalcast base coat under it
